This is a discussion on I went to the Home Run Derby within the North American Sports forums, part of the Sports Forums category; ...and Josh Hamilton made it well worth the $190 I spent on my ticket.
Wow...that was amazing...

At one point I saw him get a standing ovation. Dude was killing it like no other. It looked like one of the balls hit the back wall in right center and another traveled well into the black seats.. Fuck. I might have missed some other bombs.
Gammons was raving about if dude stays clean he could end up being a top 5 player in the majors. Too bad about his addictions.
yup...he hit the back wall int he right field bleachers, he hit one 25 rows up in thr upper deck (measured at 518 feet) and another one like 3/4ths of the way up the "black seats" in center
These weren't even cheapies. He was CRUSHING the ball

Me and my friend were joking that Justin Morneau is an expert at winning awards from people who are more deserving (he won the AL MVP in 2006 despite being possibly the third most "valuable" player on his own team).
The crazy thing was, Hamilton was the most popular of the contestants even BEFORE he put on that show. He got the biggest cheer in the pre-derby introductions and got a big cheer when he stepped to the plate in the first round.
Besides him, Berkman probably had the biggest shots. He hit one above the walkway that's halfway up the upper deck, and I had never seen anyone hit it up there before.
Sizemore got a little unlucky, as he hit three balls that went just foul, but all three were smoked line drives

Who cares though? He was there to put on a show and he did..Nobody will remember Morneau winning in the finals. They'll remember the shots Hamilton was hitting..
Sizemore isn't really a home run hitter, what the fuck was he doing in there.. He's like a line drive hitter.. I know he's got 23 homers or some shit.. but still. The competition should have big boppers.

But the record books will say Morneau as the derby champ in 2008
