Personally I see this as a REALLY stupid move.

Youkilis plays unbelievable defense and has over 60 RBI's at the break. I could care less about giving up Hansen, but Youk is a cheap enough player that the 20 million you have to hand over to Teixera in any trade (Both parties will probably only do the trade if an extension is reached)

I would rather give up more talent to obtain a decent shortstop for the Red Sox. Or middle relief. Homeruns and first base play are the least of the Sox worries right now. Their middle relief is killing them.

This would be a pretty dumb move on the Red Sox part. Tex is a great hitter, but Youk is a real gamer.. a winner.. I always feel like he's going to get a big hit down the stretch. It'd make no sense to overpay for Tex when you have Youk.

I don't know...I'm a little conflicted on my opinion of this trade. On the one hand, Teixeira is fucking awesome and check his carrer first and second half splits:

First half: .277/.366/.511
Second Half: .293/.378/.561

On the other hand, Youkilis is a more than viable first-baseman, and I agree with DD that maybe you look to improve other areas of the roster first.

I dont know...I guess if I was in the Red Sox' shoes I would do it.

Also, most of the defensive metrics I can find rate Youkilis as one of the better defensive first-basemen, but they generally have Teixeira as above-average as well.

Maybe some will disagree, but I still think a team's chemistry can be important.. and Youk is a bit of a leader in the clubhouse... I know he had a thing with Manny, but generally speaking..

Also, the Boston fans LOVE Youk. Leave well enough alone.

From a Braves standpoint, I love Tex, but he's not staying.. I fucking hate this new ownership. It's hard to be a Braves fan these days.

Yeah, I certainly understand the "if ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra.

I mean, Youkilis is certainly not hurting the team by any stretch of the imagination. It almost seems like trading Youkilis for Teixeira would be making a move just for the sake of making a move, you know?

Totally. Tex is a better offensive player.. but he's going to cost more, probably a lot more, and how much better would the team really be? they need to get better in other areas.

I don't know how stud Stanton is. I would have to look it up. But this rumor makes no sense. Why would the Marlins want to double their overall salary by adding just one player?
