Well, he wasn't exactly stellar his last few years in Oakland from what I remember so the Giants way overpaid for him but I think it was just a case hitting the downside of his career very quickly. The curve isn't as good as it used and the fact his fastball tops out in the mid 80s now certainly didn't help. I also heard from an analyst that Zito' mindset can be a little fragile at times so I'm sure once he got to like 0-4 the pressure mounted and has probably decreased his performance even more.
