I just got done watching hours of this Clemen/McNamee at Congress and I am appalled at how some of these politicians handled this. You would have thought Roger Clemens was a high ranking Republican official the way those hicks went to bat for him.. even after Petitte, Knoblauch, etc.. confirmed McNamee's allegations. It was embarrassing to watch these "leaders" of our country in action. At least the Democrats asked real questions and hammered both Clemens and McNamee for their respective roles in this situation. I understand Clemens is a registered Republican and a native Texan, but holy christ.. Can we get some real questions? Far too much attacking on McNamee's character. Being a scumbag doesn't make you a liar.
Good job to Chairman Henry Waxman from California. He was awesome. He wasn't in favor of any side and when the Republicans got out of line, he slaughtered them. Elijah Cummings from Maryland was also very good. "You're my hero, but it's hard to believe you"
You can have Issla, Duncan, Westmoreland, Davis, that idiot from Indiana.. Burton. They are complete clowns.
It's so amazing how the Republicans obviously favored Clemens, and the Democrats so clearly sided with McNamee. Fucking politicians

I may as well say my piece on Shays, R-CT. He's be here way too fucking along. I understand it's tough for a Democrat to win in the 4th district (very wealthy) but the guy is a clown. Not just because of his line of questioning this afternoon, many instances, he never comes across well.
well, one of them is obviously lying. There's no middle ground. It's a pretty messy situation

Forgetting McNamee.. I find it hard to believe that Knoblauch and especially Petitte, whom says he has to answer to God and is very religious, would lie to Congress about Clemens telling them he used HGH. Bottom line, Clemens used steroids. Just look at his stats later in his career after 4 mediocre years in Boston in which Dan Duquette said the infamous "twilight in his career" comment.
5 hours.......5 hours and I dont think we learned ANYTHING, did we? It was embarrasing as an American. This was such a bad case of Republicans vs. Democrats. It was obvious to anyone that was watching that there were people that wanted to bash McNamee and not Clemens, and vice versa. There was no agenda on exposing the truth, but to catch people in lies and hope they would deliver the leading question on Sportscenter. Also, if they were hell bent on exposing Clemens or McNamee they would have brought Pettite in no matter how uncomfortable he would have been.
"What hat are you wearing into the Hall of Fame?" Are you serious? That was an actual question asked by a Congressman.
Meanwhile, an 18 year old U.S. Soldier dies from a IED in Iraq as the question is being asked.
This was pathetic on so many levels it wasnt even funny.
Then you have the whole Arlon Spector thing with Spygate. He openly says on the record. "I only start investigating this because my Eagles may have been scammed out a Superbowl win" Wha-wha-what?!?!?
I am the biggest Roger guy in the world. Well, I should say I WAS. My idolizing of Clemens is well documented throughout the past 20 years. Now I am left with my dick in my hand, because someone I looked up to for so long is dragging his own reputation and legacy through the mud. If he just admitted to it in the first place ala Giambi, Pettite and Knoblaugh then people would be disappointed in him, but they would have eventually understood when the numbers come out on just how many people actually were on the juice at the time.
I agree...I think athletes underestimate how understanding and forgiving the public can be.
Pettitte took it like a man, and I think he will looked upon less harshly than a guy like Clemens, who is fighting it tooth and nail.
We all make mistakes. It's the way that people respond when their mistakes are revealed that shows their true character.
Also, I do think the government should have an interest in the steroid issue. It does benefit the public if steroid abuse is reduced, and part of that is by punishing the people who sell steroids illegally. Thus, I dont have that much if a problem with Congress devoting resources to this matter. The government is flexible enough to handle multiple problems at once, such as Iraq, the economy, etc.
However, getting involved in Spygate is just ridiculous. It doesnt serve to improve American society whatsoever, and the case was handled internally by the NFL. The Patriots were penalized very harshly and appropriately. That should have been the end of it

Well, it's the fact that the league and Goodell destroyed the tapes that has caught Congress' attention. Of course, there are underlying factors in all of this, the Sen. Arlen Specter has a hand in the cablevision mess with the NFL, but he's going to try to prove that the NFL is sweeping cheating under the rug as a way to make sure everyone believes the game is on the level, which it is.. the games definitely aren't fixed, but the whole thing can be brought into an Anti-trust dispute. Basically, the guy wants publicity and wants to make himself look good if he can prove the Pats were cheaters during the Eagles Super Bowl.. but he'll be smart enough to make it look like he hasn't a dog in the fight.
Apparently, Goodell has agreed to let the kid video assistant talk to Congress and present any tapes he may have. It could be getting a lot worse for the Pats in the coming months.
As for Congress' involvement in this steroid issue, I agree.. it does help the community and bring about awareness, and the fact is.. this was House Government Reform and Oversight Committee which hasn't a whole lot to do at the moment.
