Mike Mayock's NFL Draft Rankings (as of Feb. 6)

Having watched him the past few years on NFL Network, Mayock might be my favourite draft guru out there. His analyses always seem solid and well-formed, and he isn't afraid to go against the grain. Here's his top 5 for every position, with a few surprises:

Mike Mayock's draft prospect rankings (updated Feb. 6)

To name a few obvious surprises: Mendenhall over McFadden at RB, Henne over everyone but Ryan at QB, and Ellis over Dorsey at DT (which isn't as surprising as the others).

(If someone knows how to paste the thing here so people don't have to follow the link, do it.)

I don't really like Mayock at all after practicly begging the Dolphins to take Matt Ryan with the #1 pick all year. But most of his opinons are well formed about the draft, but I just don't see alot of what he sees in this draft I guess.

Manningham over DeSean Jackson? Henne over Brohm? Brandon Flowers #2 CB? We'll see if hes right in time.

Well.. I'm not sure why you wouldn't like Manningham over DeSean. Is it the speed? because I honestly see DeSean as more of a Ginn type and Manningham as a more complete receiver.

I think there both good, I think Manningham will be more productive right away then Jackson, I just think DeSean even though I have some questions about him has 10 time the upside of Manningham. Plus Mario has a serious case of the Chad Johnson "Give me the ball or ill kill you"s

Re: Mike Mayock's NFL Draft Rankings (as of Feb. 6)

Yeah, but those guys can often times be corrected. See: Burress, Moss, Owens.. this year. I love Manningham's big play capability and the fact that I can see him going over the middle whereas I expect DeSean to be an "all or nothing" type of player. He does have a lot of upside though.

Re: Mike Mayock's NFL Draft Rankings (as of Feb. 6)

I agree with Brandon's assessment of Manningham/Jackson, though I'd also add that neither has impressed me with his hands. And while he'll undoubtedly show flashes and make a few big plays, I just find it hard to believe that Jackson will ever be a consistent option in the passing game.

There really aren't any locks this year at wideout, or even tight end for that matter.

Re: Mike Mayock's NFL Draft Rankings (as of Feb. 6)

John Carlson is going to be the next Jason Witten/Dallas Clark, to me at least. His draft stock dropped a ton this year because of the year Notre Dame had and the fact he stayed in to block so often insted of running routes like he did the year before. But I think who ever drafts this guy late second round/high third round is getting a probably the most complete TE skill wise in the draft class.

Speaking of Notre Dame alum, whats the word on the street about Tom Zbikowski? I haven't heard a lot about him since he had that decent return in the Senior Bowl.

Gonna be a contributor wherever he goes, likely on special teams and at safety in spot duty, but probably too slow and a liability in pass coverage.

Re: Mike Mayock's NFL Draft Rankings (as of Feb. 6)

Ah I suppose thats a fair way of looking at Zibby, hes not going to blow you away with psychical gifts but hes a hard worker and leader. Which I think theres always a place for on a NFL roster.

Speaking of Senior bowl weekend, it would be interesting to see where Mayock places Brennan now on the QB list after the Senior bowl. Either the Last practice before the game or during it he had a discussion with Rich Eisen I believe were he said theres a good possiblity of Brennan going undrafted. Which may be one of the things I agree with him on this year, Horrible arm on deep passes, weird side arm hes a long term Project if anyone does take him.

Wasn't it just a couple months ago where he was being projected to go in the 2nd round?
