So what do you think about the Chargers approach in the last few days.. talking so much crap before the AFCC? Is it intentional? Is this their strategy or is this just the way they try to fire themselves up? Rivers talking smack to everyone in sight which seems to be a daily thing and then there's..
A reporter asked Igor about the Pats and he said "Who? New England? They're more worried about us than we are about them, they know what's up."
Shawne Merriman was asked at a press conference about Jabar Gaffney. "Jabar Gaffey. Gafney. Gafee. what's his name? "
They better be geared up. Here's the 3 things that MUST happen for them to have a chance..
1. Pressure on Brady. I'm looking at you Merriman, Castillio, Phillips. I don't care where it comes from. The Jaguars plan didn't work.. it was effective for 3 quarters but once they realized they were suffering a slow rather than quick death they failed to make adjustments. Lets face it, mixing up blitz packages is the onyl way to create a turnover against the Pats. Brady is too good when he gets 5 HOURS in the pocket.
2. LT, Turner, Sproles.. they must control the clock and eat, eat.. eat it away. Long drives. It'd be nice if Gates were healthy to pick apart the middle. The NE linebackers couldn't stick with him, safeties neither.
3. Something freaky. Whether it's a muffed punt, fumble from Maroney, whatever.. tipped ball that's deflected into the hands of Cromartie and returned 137 yards for a score.. they need it. The Pats usually win because of a lot of reasons, but this is one of them.. nothing freaky ever happens. How do you make it happen? Well, you can put hard licks on them, yes.. but hopefully someone on the Pats will finally screw up themselves for a change. Look at that pick in the end zone form Champ Bailey a few years back. Changed the whole game.
That is all. See you next week. Most likely getting ready for another Pats Super Bowl To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I wouldn't take Igors comments to heart lol the guy is just a big jewish joker, Merriman...eh probably. I'd rather they not even open there mouth but you know the media would spin "I think we have a shot" in to bulletin board stuff with the pats.

What the Chargers obviously fail to understand is that when you're an underdog, you WANT the other team to take you lightly. The Patriots are supremely talented and well coached, and they know this. It's human nature that might start buying into this, and maybe not give that extra effort in practice or in the game, and then if the Chargers give that extra effort they can maybe upset them.
I mean, look at how many close games the Patriots played in the second half. They might have taken the Ravens and the AJ Feeley-led Eagles lightly, and struggled a bit, before their supreme talent kicked in and won the game for them.
But then look at the game against Pittsburgh. They STOMPED a very high-quality team because that stupid back-up safety gave them the motivation to truly give that extra effort.
Why are athletes too stupid to just say something bland like "We know this will be a challenge, but we feel like we have a lot of talent on this team and if we prepare well and play our hardest, we can emerge victorious"
That is simple, to the point, doesnt get the other team riled up, and most of all, it's true

So..do you buy into the theory that this is what the Chargers do to make themselves believe? Or is that BS? I don't know.. I think if they believe this kind of chatter helps them as a team than maybe they should go for it. Go all out.
The Chargers are a very talented group but they've always come across as a Dallas kind of team where there's no voice of reason, no team leader..no personality at the coaching position, just a bunch of talented players winning on their talent but at any second they could unravel. Maybe their hatred for the Pats can unify them much like the Pats are a unified group in their own right..
I don't think trash talking even matters at this point in the season anyways Tom, I don't think its the smartest thing ever. But if the Patriots need Bulletin board stuff to get hyped for the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, then they should probably re think there jobs a bit.

Brandon, I actually thought about your point after I posted my point, but I forgot to add it in...if trash-talking and talking abou thow great you are makes you a better team, then by all means do it. But do it BEHIND CLOSED DOORS! Don't tell it to the media.
TOL, I totally understand what you're saying, but my point is that by trash-talking through the media, NOTHING good can come of it. Only bad can come of it. If you stay silent, maybe you benefit, maybe you don't. But it's still better than riling up the other team
