Re: NFL Playoff Discussion

Well.. I was wrong on the Skins, right on everything else.

This week I like the Pats, Colts, 'Boys, and surprisingly the Seahawks.

I like the Colts because they should be fairly healthy and even though the Chargers present some issues, if you think the teams are pretty equal, you look at the QB. I'll take Manning over Rivers thank you.

I like the Cowboys because unless you think Owens will still be hurting, the Giants couldn't stop their offense in two games earlier in the year and I have no reason to believe it'll be different this time around. They'll have a healthy Terry Glenn also.

I like the Pats because lets face it.. they're playing the Jaguars. Nothing against the Jags, they do match up pretty well.. but the only chance they have is if Jones-Drew and Taylor really get it rolling and eat the clock. I don't think they'll do enough to keep this close.

I like the Seahawks because I had to pick a road team. I like their roster better than the Giants roster and I don't see either of the AFC home teams losing, so there you have it. Packers can definitely beat them.

I felt a lot better about the Jags' chances before watching the Steelers pick them apart in the second half last Saturday -- but that said, I still think they match up well with the Patriots. Like Blade said, their running game really has to be firing -- I'm talking a few big runs by MJD and Taylor -- and Garrard has to make smart throws on offense. On defense, Rashean Mathis is exactly the type of physical cover corner needed to match up with Moss, and ultimately what I think this game will come down to is whether the Jags can get a significant pass rush early -- because if Brady has time to sit in the pocket, they'll score big on anybody.

I'll pick the Pats.

What about the Chargers, Colts rematch?
The Chargers were a mess against the Titans; if they come out and play like that again this week, it's gonna get ugly. If Gates can't go, I see no way that this game is even close.

I'll pick the Colts, and I don't think it'll be close.

Seahawks vs. Packers should be good. Is this Bretts last playoff game?
To answer the second question first: barring a career-ending injury, I feel there's virtually no way Brett retires this offseason unless the Packers win the Super Bowl. So, my answer is no.

As for the game, the Seahawks were probably the NFC team I least wanted Green Bay to face in the second round, but if you look at how the offenses, defenses and special teams stack up next to each other, Green Bay wins in virtually every category. If Charles Woodson (toe injury) can't play well or can't play at all, the Packers will win in a close one. If he's healthy, I think they'll take it pretty comfortably.

Either way, I'll pick the Packers.

Giants vs. Cowboys take three. Can Dallas beat NY for the third time this season?
I have to be honest: I'm riding this Giants bandwagon pretty hard right now. They've looked like a complete football team these past couple weeks (save for a case of the dropsies), and I really don't know how sharp the Cowboys are going to be. The Giants seem to have all the momentum. Of course, the Cowboys could very well come out firing and win in a blowout, but these divisional playoff games are always closer than they should be. I'm almost certain Owens will play, but I expect to see the Cowboys offense struggle to get coordinated early. It's been said a million times, but this is a game that'll define Eli Manning's career in New York.

I'll pick the Giants.

PS. I'm so fucking excited for all these games.

I'm excited too. There's no way I'm not going out Sat. night (most of my friends are Pats fans) and boozing to JAX/NE. There's really not a bad game here. All of them.. very intriguing. Best week the NFL could have asked for.

Re: NFL Playoff Discussion

I'm kinda on the fence in the Chargers/Colts Jags/NE match ups to be honest. Theres to many factors that need to play out before I can pick a team and stand behind especially the Colts/Bolts match up. If Gates is good to go how good will he be? those toe sprains can hang around for awhile. If not were going to have to rely on Rivers a lot if they can shut out LT and I'm not exactly sold on Rivers in the playoffs.

OH YEAH our Kicker is 2 for 7 in the playoffs for Field Goals...real clutch Keading.

Jags/NE all depends on Weather if its cold and windy I say Jags take it, if not NE does.

Re: NFL Playoff Discussion

To show how much respect I have for the Patriots.. I know a lot of you think I'm a hater.. but against anyone else I would LOVE the Jags and maybe even pick them outside of maybe a game in Indy. I love the Jags roster and their physical play.. They are certainly a GOOD team. I agree with Lemonz here, if the Jags can catch a break on the weather it'd be the best thing for them. I don't think the Pats are nearly physical enough on either side of the ball to handle JAX in a sloppy game. If the weather is clear.. Pats will probably get the passing game rolling at some point whether it's early or 4th quarter.. they'd eventually explode.

Re: NFL Playoff Discussion

Ya I picked Dallas, but I am a homer and don't feel right about not taking them in the playoffs. I could easily see the giants win this game. First off, the Giants are looking good. They looked pretty awful in the 1st quarter vs. the bucs, but after that they looked like the team who almost beat the pats. Also, it will be tough for dallas to beat the giants 3 times in one season. But either way the game should be a good game. I hope dallas comes out ready to play.

Re: NFL Playoff Discussion

I was a MESS Sunday afternoon/night after the Giants game...went to a bar in the city and the bartender gave me, my friend, and a guy who was sitting next to us at the bar a free round of Jack Daniels shots after each of the Giants three TDs...plus, we were downing pitchers like whoa...

I didnt stop calling, texting, and IM'ing people until like 1 a.m....mostly about how much I hate the Barber brothers ("Of course we want to play New York...when they win, they win ugly, and Eli is inconsistent") and how good Eli has looked the last two games.

Honestly, I have NEVER seen Eli play as well as he did against Tampa. He didnt force balls into coverage like he usually does...only like 2 of his 7 incompletions were what you would call "bad throws". In fact, one of his incompletions was a ball that he was throwing to an open Plaxico Burress in the end zone, but new tight end Kevin Boss jumped up and tipped it away lol. Eli was poised, he didnt fix his eyes on one receiver, etc.

He also threw the ball where his receivers were going to be, not where they were. Case in point, Plaxico was running a hitch, and Eli knew EXACTLY where Plax was going to turn around. As soon as Plax made his turn, the ball was coming right into his midsection, and Plax picked up a first down. He was buying time with pump-fakes, moving around well when pressure got to him.

I'm still a little shocked. I have NEVER seen Eli play this well. He didnt put up big gaudy numbers (less than 200 yards passing) but he took exactly what Tampa gave him and made them pay.

As for this coming week, I really hope T.O. doesnt play...he's a Giant killer. If he's out, the giants stand a chance. If he plays, Dallas will make it 3-0 versus the G-Men this year.

Re: NFL Playoff Discussion

I think it would still help, think about it, we all know owens is tough. He would still get the double coverage. and that gives romo a better shot with witten, glenn, crayton, hurd, austin, and barber.

Yes, I guess they'll only single cover him if it's obvious that he's of little threat.
