Whoa whoa whoa.. The Red Sox, like many other ball clubs were forced into using every resource they have to put a team on the field that will be competitive enough year in and year out to deal with the Yankees obscene payroll. The Sox are beating the Yankees at their own game.

Don't you think it's odd that the Rays, Jays, and O's will NEVER be good enough to win that division?

Don't give me the Red Sox crap about how they are supposedly the new evil empire. The Yankees still had a payroll last season that was roughly $60-70M more than everyone else.

Re: MLB Off-Season moves and discussion

I think the Yankees were thought of buying a Championship because guys like Giambi were well known and acquired via FA whereas most of the Sox big names are either homegrown or traded for. Ortiz was considered a cast off in Minnesota. He had always showed potential but was always injured.

As for Joba... I see Little Santana being better...

Re: MLB Off-Season moves and discussion

Thats actually kinda funny, because in the time since the Yankees started spending like crazy on FAs (Giambi, Mussina, Matsui, Damon, etc.) they havent been winning the World Series. During the 1996-2000 period, they were almost always towards the top of the payroll list, if not #1, but it wasnt a huge gap like there is now.

Re: MLB Off-Season moves and discussion

People argue that they've spent money on the wrong free agents these past few years. I'm not really sure what that means.. To me, the Yanks have been a little snake-bitten by some of these free agents. Anyone would have gone after Randy Johnson wouldn't they? But he fell apart..

A-Rod's a guy you can pretty much guarantee and I'd say the same about Johan Santana, but then again.. what if he hurts his arm?

Re: MLB Off-Season moves and discussion

see, thats EXACTLY what I'm worried about...despite not really having a history of injuries, pitchers are such high-risk commodities, because its so easy to blow out your arm, or start developing recurring problems...I dont want to trade a bunch of studs for a guy who's the best at his position, but could end up fucking his arm up down the road...

btw, if Johan goes to the Red Sox i REALLY hope it's for Ellsbury or Bucholz, and not Lester...Lester is not nearly as good as people are making him out to be, but Ellsbury and Bucholz are the truth

Re: MLB Off-Season moves and discussion

If I were the Red Sox I probably wouldn't trade Ellsbury, but if I did, I'd consider bringing in Andruw Jones. He's 30. He's still a gold glove outfielder and he's coming off a horrible year at the plate, but imagine what he could do with that Green Monster in left. He could hit 50 doubles. Problem is, Torii Hunter got $90M or some shit so now this dude is gonna think he's worth more than that.

See, im not so sure about that. I mean, I agree wholeheartedlay about ELsbury, THe kid was a stud in the playoffs, and im imagining he will be a sure fire ROTY candidate.

But Bucholtz? He did throw a no-hitter, but so didnt Derek Lowe. So, im not so sure Bucholtz is a future #1 starter.

Re: MLB Off-Season moves and discussion

Supposedly the Twins have asked to take a closer look at Lesters medical records.

Also, who thinks the Yankees will hold true to their "midnight deadline" last night?

This new Steinbrenner seems like a real tool.

No, they will not hold to their deadline, and yes, Steinbrenner Jr. is a fucking jackass
