Re: MLB Off-Season moves and discussion

But he does have a history of success, in all of the two years he's stayed healthy. Besides, Boston is a pretty high pressure market, Milwaukee, not so much, so you'll never know what he's gonna do.

Besides, isn't the NL inferior to the AL?

but why did they have to give him that much? That's what's in question here.. not that they took a chance on him, but the amount.. First, it's a franchise that never spends money on anyone and second.. what was the market for this guy? Surely, they weren't in a bidding war..

My guess is because if they hadn't, another team would have.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember Gagne pitching pretty well last year for the Rangers -- at least well enough that Sox fans were happy about acquiring him. Like SS said, Gagne's pitched well nearly his entire career, especially in the NL, and the Brewers needed to replace the closer they lost. I actually think their bullpen is shaping up very nicely.

He was pretty good in Texas last year. It's a weird move, but probably just to sell tickets. If he works out he's a pretty good person to get people to come to the park to see.

Rangers to ink outfielder Bradley to one-year contract

NEW YORK -- Outfielder Milton Bradley and the Texas Rangers reached a preliminary agreement Sunday on a $5 million, one-year contract.

Bradley, who also had considered re-signing with the San Diego Padres, could play outfield or be a designated hitter with the Rangers. His deal also contains performance bonuses.

"I would be very comfortable with Milton Bradley," Rangers manager Ron Washington said last week at the winter meetings. "If Milton were to become available to the Texas Rangers, we would like to have him."

Washington was a coach with the Athletics when Bradley played for Oakland in 2006.

Bradley was the second-half offensive catalyst for the Padres, who fell one win short of going to their third straight trip to the playoffs. But he tore the anterior cruciate ligament and damaged cartilage in his right knee when Padres manager Bud Black spun him to the ground while trying to keep him from going after umpire Mike Winters during a confrontation on Sept. 23.

San Diego and Bradley, who has a history of losing his temper, claimed Winters baited the player into the confrontation and directed a profanity at him. Winters was suspended for the final five days of the regular season and didn't work the postseason.

Bradley's injury was the climax of a bizarre sequence of events.

A few innings before he was injured, Bradley inadvertently stepped on Mike Cameron's right hand as the two chased Garrett Atkins' inside-the-park home run. Cameron injured his thumb and made just one appearance the rest of the season.

Bradley finished the year hitting .306 with 13 homers and 37 RBIs in 61 games with Oakland and San Diego.

His decision to sign with the Rangers was first reported by Foxsports.com.

And that would have been equally ridiculous in my opinion. This is a guy who hasn't been nearly the same since his devastating injury a few years back and a guy that quit on the Red Sox just this past season.. and clubs think he's deserving of Mariano type money?

I find it hilarious.

Re: MLB Off-Season moves and discussion

it's not that big of a risk though. only a one year deal.

think about it. National league, small market. Pretty much no pressure. If he comes out to a strong start, then maybe he'll coast...
