When exactly did the Yankees start decreasing their payroll? They just gave Posada, Mariano, and A-Rod huge contract extensions and they opted to keep Abreu for $16M this year and now Andy is coming back for another $16M I'm sure.. I love this trade for the Tigers. They gave up a lot of prospects but what they got in return could win them the world series. HOLY SHIT.

Both players are in their mid 20's and already damn good. Miggy has very comparable numbers to Manny Ramirez's first few seasons. Could be a legend if he stays off the Twinkies.

I get that Santana is the best pitcher in baseball and in his prime, but pitchers are fragile. I never value them as high as a position player even though their impact in the post-season is unlike any other position.. Furthermore, the Twinkies aren't going to give Santana anywhere near the supposed $150M asking price so they have to move him.. and I don't see where they are going to find anything better right now then what the Sox are offering, assuming the Yanks are out of this race. Also, I don't see how a scout can tell us what Ellsbury is going to be worth in the majors when we already saw the dude tear up the majors and the playoffs during the later parts of the '07 season. What he did this year HAS to factor in this potential trade. He looked like a stud with nerves of steel to me. I'd also like to add that while Derek Jeter's stats aren't usually unbelievable, he does things that do not show up on the stat sheet that win games, especially in big spots. I got the feeling Ellsbury could possibly be that type of player.

Ortiz was injured for most of his career in Minnesota, that's why they cut him. I remember I was living around there, they loved Ortiz but he couldn't stay healthy. I think a healthy Ortiz could have hit 40 HR's in Minnesota(Although I'm quite glad he didn't) Last edited by Suntan Superman; 12-05-2007 at 12:36 PM. Reason: double post ;)

Andruw Jones and the Dodgers agreed early Thursday morning on a two-year deal worth over $36 million. Jones won 10 gold gloves in 12 seasons with the Braves

I know it's $18M/year+ but I can safely say this is not what he had hoped. He wanted a contract similar to what Soriano got from the Cubs last year. He'll be great for the Dodgers but it irks me a little that he settled for this. The Braves probably could've gotten him to stay for two years. Not a great offseason for Boras is it?
