Simon, the reason why everyone hates Patriot fans is because before 2001 you guys didn't exist. I've lived on the Mass border my entire life. There were more Cowboys fans around here than Pats fans.. and if they weren't fans of the Boys it was the Giants, Jets, Niners..or even Raiders.

I grew up 5 MINUTES from Foxboro stadium and went to all the home games and froze my ass off watching Steve Grogan and the boys suck year after year and then get demolished by the Bears. We just loved going to the games since it was so close, but I was never a Pats fan. My entire family was, but not me. I was always a 49ers fan since I was little when my parents, who knew nothing about sports, bought me a Niners shirt because they liked the colors. Even to this day I dont like them, but I wont deny the level of play Brady is currently playing at. But like anything else the regular season will mean little to nothing if they dont win it all.

First of all, I agree that Bill Belichick is an incredible incredible coach. He's great at making adjustments, and doing the opposite of what people expect and confusing the opposing team, etc. In this regard, he may just be the best coach in the NFL. However, I think he is a mean, petty, insecure man. I thought it showed a low level of character the way he was so unsupportive of Mangini when Mangini got the Jets job, i thought the way he pushed the cameraman out of the way following the second Jets game last year was inappropriate, and the way he blatantly violates the rules of the NFL (not only the camera thing, but his blatant disregard of the injury report policy) is inappropriate. Ont he field, he's the best there is. Off the field, he's a scumbag. And his scumbag-ness really has little to do with the team's success on the field...it's just him being a dick Secondly, I hate how the Patriots players always try to say that they are underappreciated or that nobody believes in them or whatever. Are you fucking kidding me? Anybody who knows anything about football knows that the Patriots are the best team of the 2000's. Now, as opposed to the Belichick thing, I think this may actually benefit the team...because playing with a chip on your shoulder can translate to extra aggressiveness on the field. But even though it helps, from an outsider's point of view, it's fucking annoying Then, of course, there's the whole fan issue. The Patriots weren't as cherished as they are until six years ago. Now, of course, it's good that the city has rallied around the team, but it does kinda bother me how a lot of Mass. people act like they've been Pats die-hards their entire life, when that really isnt the case

If you lived in Massachusetts you would know just how wrong that is... 90% of people that live in Massachusetts only like 1 team in each sport. The ones here. Granted we are like any city.........when our teams are HORRIBLE people will watch other teams and follow them and root for them, but not to the extent they follow the Pats even when they stink. I have said before...When I was a kid I was a Broncos fan, mainly because the Patriots were blacked out because they only had like 3,000 fans in attendance. Also one MAJOR point about the Pats and their fans. They had NOTHING to celebrate besides that ass kicking in 85 for a LOOOOONG time. Once Bob Kraft bought the team everything changed. But I do see where people are coming from I think. I absolutely HATED the Cowboys and 49ers in the 90's. I mean HATED them, but its because I dug the Broncos and Giants and they Boys and 9ers were un-freaking-beatable. So yeah, I was just jealous like the rest of the country is now with the Patriots. Here is a question I would like to pose to non-Pats fans. If Belechick and Brady both opted out of the contracts (let's pretend there were clauses) and they hit the open market. Now take your favorite team......Let's say the Giants for Tom Dogg....Would you rather have your QB and Head Coach or Brady and Bill? Personally the only team that I think should even hesitate with that decision is the Colts. Love, I.B. Awesomes

For all the reasons that you mentioned...there really was little to get excited about until 2001. However, it did seem to me like the Red Sox always got a little more leeway during the difficult years than the Pats did. And the Celtics have been awesome most of their existence, so that's not really a fair comparison. I realize I dont live in Mass...but there are a LOT of transplanted Bostoners in NYC, and I met a ton while in college (not really at my school, but my friends's friends)...and they ALWAYS talked about the Sox and Celtics...very little about the Pats. As for the Brady and Belichick thing, of course I would take them. I have nothing against Brady whatsoever. Nothing at all. In fact, he went to Michigan (my favorite college team), so I love him for that As for Belichick, of course i would want him on my team. But if you told me I could have Belichick exactly the way he is now, or Belichick with a little more class and respect, I would take the classy Belichick
