Wow...Baseball Prospectus has the Rockies with a 56.3% chance to win the World Series. I'm VERY surprised to see that

Re: World Series 2007 Discussion

I don't see Colorado winning more then one game in Boston which means they'll have to sweep in Colorado to win the series. I don't see that happening. Coors Field is a crazy place to pitch in, I can see that Sox lineup scoring 10+ runs in at least one of those Colorado games. A lot of people are talking about how the Rockies are pitching very well in this postseason but did anyone take into account that the Phillies just went cold for a few games and Arizona can't hit at all? Boston is not a team that's going to get shutdown by Francis and Fogg, etc.. They just beat up on Carmona and Sabathia for christ sake. they averaged nearly 10 runs/game in Boston during the ALCS.

Rockies will play well but Sox in 6.

Re: World Series 2007 Discussion

If the Rockies can beat Beckett at Fenway, things will get very interesting.

Re: World Series 2007 Discussion

Beckett looks untouchable right now. I'm not saying he'll throw a shutout but if he pitches fairly well over 7 you'd expect the Sox to put up some runs. Fenway Park is an unbelievable advantage for their lesser hitters (Lowell, Pedroia, Drew, Youk, etc.)

Re: World Series 2007 Discussion

Another thing to keep in mind is Holliday's home-road splits...he is much worse on the road...even more than the usual "Coors Field effect", which has been lessened because of the humidor

The rockies have an underrated line-up. Holliday, Atkins, Tulowitzki, and Hawpe are all good young hitters, Helton is still dangerous, Taveras is fast as fuck, and Kaz Matsui stole 32 out of 36 bases this year. Plus, when they play in Fenway, they're one of the few NL teams that is deep enough to have a legitimate DH on the roster, Ryan Spilborghs, who batted .299/.363/.485 in 97 games this year.

The Rockies have a good bullpen too. Their big deficiency is starting pitching though. Boston's third best starter is probably better than Jeff Francis, so Boston will have the pitching advantage in every game except MAYBE Game 4.

Predicting a playoff series is silly, since a few bounces here and there can turn things upside-down, but I'll say Boston in 6. If I had to guess how, I'd say they take both games in Boston, Rockies take 2 of 3 in Coors, and Schilling finishes it off in Game 6 at home

Re: World Series 2007 Discussion

If I were the managers, here's how I would assemble the line-ups:

Colorado:

1. Taveras
2. Tulowitzki
3. Holliday
4. Helton
5. Atkins
6. Hawpe
7. Spilborghs
8. Torrealba
9. Matsui

In Coors, just remove Spilborghs and push Torrealba and Matsui up

Boston:

1. Pedroia
2. Youkilis
3. Ortiz
4. Ramirez
5. Lowell
6. Varitek
7. Ellsbury/Drew
8. Crisp
9. Lugo

In Coors, remove Youkilis, push Ellsbury up to either #1 or #2, make Pedroia the #2 hitter if Ellsbury leads off, and move Crisp up to 7, Lugo to 8. If Drew plays instead of Crisp, Drew bats 7th
