The best basketball players get $20 million a season but the bench players get $500,000.
Same with baseball, Jeter and the like bring in a lot of dough but some fringe players won't get paid shit.
I would say overall baseball is probably the highest paying but that's not backed up by anything.
Ive got to agree here, certain individuals from certain sports get complete diffrent pay checks than other people in the same sport, examples of this are Tiger Woods and Micheal Schumacher who earn(ed) far more than anybnody else in the same sport

If you dont take endoresements into account, Tiger Woods ends up being nowhere near the top. He doesnt make THAT much from golf. but he makes tens of millions a year from endorsements.
I think that if you look sport by sport, the average basketball player makes more than the average player in any other sport. The main reason for this is that there are less players in the NBA than in the NFL, MLB, or NHL. In the NBA, each player gets a bigger chuck of the "salary pie" than in the other sports.
I think if you added up all the salaries, MLB would lead all the other sports in salaries paid to players. The NFL probably gets more money from tv/radio contracts, but MLB gets MUCH more from ticket sales, since there are 10 times as many games. also, a lot of the stadiums have "stuff" to do in them that football stadiums dont have, such as batting cages, pitching booths, bars, restaurants, etc. Basically, baseball stadiums have more revenue generating amenities than football stadiums, and they get to generate that revenue over the course of 162 games. Plus, sales of baseball hats and jerseys are probably on par with football merchandise sales.
So, there's more emoney to pay players with, so the players in total make more.
If it wasnt so close to leaving work time, I owuld actually look this up...maybe when I get home...

Beckham's 5-year 250-million-dollar deal in MLS must have brought the average salary there up quite a bit.
That figure is not entirely accurate. His deal is structured in a way where he gets a % of the match attendance (if he plays), sponsorship deals, win bonus', merchandise sales, etc. The $250m figure has been abused. He will not get anything like that. Sure he'll still be earning more than any other soccer player, but not $250m.
