Re: #5 Michigan stunned by Division I-AA team

First of all, no. I think West Virginia and Louisville both have better football teams.

Second, how do you rank those teams within the SEC? I have all of them ahead of Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.

Re: #5 Michigan stunned by Division I-AA team

I would rank the SEC at this point..

1. LSU
2. Florida
3. Georgia
4. Arkansas
5. Auburn
6. Tennessee
7. Alabama
8. Kentucky
others..

So yes, I do think Tennesse could win the Big East is what I'm saying. I nver said they would beat out Louisville or West Virginia but they would give them a run if they played eachother. I think the Vols have more then enough talent on their squad to compete.

Re: #5 Michigan stunned by Division I-AA team

To add to that thought.. Kentucky with Woodson should be no pushover either. That is at least 8 VERY solid teams this year.. possibly 9 with Spurrier and co..

Give me another conference that has that many teams who ar capable of beating almost anyone on a given night. And when I say almost anyone, obviously I'm not saying that Kentucky or Bama could beat the USC's of the world but everyone else.. yeah, they'd compete.

No one's denying that the SEC is currently the strongest conference in college football, or that it's the most competitive, or that it's the most fun to watch.

I'm just saying, if you put West Virginia or Louisville in the SEC, either would be a major contender to win the conference, and both could beat the pants off the conference's current 6-7-8 teams.

Re: #5 Michigan stunned by Division I-AA team

I guess that's where we differ because I honeslty don't see West Virginia or Louisville matching up with Florida or LSU and I think you can say they are at least equal with the others but I wouldn't put it past the Vols or Tigers or 'Backs to beat them.

Looking back at last year, wasn't it these two same teams, one that lost to Rutgers? I mean Rutgers is alright.. but c'mon.

Notre Dame and Ohio St. didn't belong on the same field with LSU or Florida and if you look at how Florida fared withing their own conference, they needed a couple miracles to get past the likes of South Carolina and others..

Well we obviously won't find out for sure until January, but I still think you're unfairly underrating the Big East powerhouses. Just two years ago, when nobody gave them any chance, the Mountaineers beat the SEC champion Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl, led by a pair of true freshmen. Those guys are obviously back this year (and have become even better), while Louisville is led by probably the best quarterback in the nation.

To be fair, West Virginia beat SEC champ Georgia in the Sugar Bowl two years ago. And, the Big East went undefeated in bowl games last year

Whoops...Freak beat me to it

Re: #5 Michigan stunned by Division I-AA team

I've made that argument before when people didn't give West Virginia enough credit as a legit powerhouse but now people have gotten too ahead of themselves. The SEC is even better now then it was then. Am I the only one that watched how the conference unfolded? Almost every team in the SEC gave Florida and LSU more trouble then Ohio St. or Notre Dame did. You can chalk it up to a couple bad games or you can think like I do and say that they (OSU & ND) didn't have a chance. Just look at the team speed differential. The SEC is playing on another level.

Even Bama with Saban is going to be a strong strong program again..

I know I'm going on and on about this but it irritates me when after all these years people are still calling this conference overrated and over hyped.

Re: #5 Michigan stunned by Division I-AA team

My only real gripe with the SEC (besides the fact that most of their fans are ignorant, Southern, redneck hillbillies) is the fact that up-and-coming programs like Louisville and W. VA have tried to schedule SEC teams, but SEC teams turn them down, and then complain about Louisville and West Virginia's weak schedules come bowl-time.

It's fine for SEC teams to want to schedule creampuffs for their nonconference games, especially since the conference games are so hard. But then don't complain about other schools's weak schedules, especially if they wanted to play you (to improve their strength of schedule) and you turned them down

Plus, Urban Meyer came across as a total jackass last year with his anti-Michigan stuff preceding the BCS Selection day

Re: #5 Michigan stunned by Division I-AA team

any given day I can see Penn State, Michigan State, Iowa, Illinois beating any team. Yes Illinois. to be fair I'm slipping them on the list because I think they will fare well this year. So that gives teh Big Ten, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin(beat the 'backs), Penn St., Michigan St., Iowa, and Illinois. So, I think every conference will have it's maybes. I mean wasn't it just last year that a Michigan State team almost knocked off a ranked Notre Dame team(even if overrated)
