Both ridiculous statements. No offense.

One-Beckett looked like a wash up too in his first year in the AL, especially the high pressure AL east. This year, dirt-nasty.

Dice-K will be everything we hoped for by year 3 of his contract. And that has been what management has been telling us all along, about the "adjustment period"

And Hanley Ramirez would not be nearly as afective in the AL. NL is easy street, especially when your the Marlins and everyone kind of shrugs you off likt they do the DRays.

Re: Unbelievable Game tonight For Red Sox Rookie

I don't quite agree with that. I think Hanley Ramirez is an excellent player but on the flip side I'd still rather have Josh Beckett. It's hard to acquire top level pitching, pitching that's still young at that, and Beckett has already proven himself by winning the WS MVP in 2003 and this year he's been awesome.

Dice K has been solid, don't let the 13-11 record fool you. I've watched every game he's pitched and more often then not he's giving the Sox a chance to win all of these games and that's all you can ask for. He battles and usually lasts deep into the later innings. There's a reason why he's among the league leaders in innings pitched.

Really true Blade, You can't ask more from a pitcher than to give you a chance to win the game. Dice-K has done that

That's why win-loss records are stupid, and I pay very very little attention to them

Randy Johnson was one of the worst pitchers in the AL last year (ERA: 5.00) and he had 17 wins

Win-loss record, almost as stupid as "saves"

Re: Unbelievable Game tonight For Red Sox Rookie

As for the Ramirez vs. Beckett argument, I think you really could go either way. Sure, pitching is hard to come by, but Ramirez looks like an absolute stud, and he could be just as good, if not better, than Jose Reyes. Plus, he plays the most challenging defensive position (besides catcher), and he doesnt have the extensive injury history that Beckett has.

So, I really dont know who I'd rather have. I maaaaaaybe lean a little towards Hanley, but I'm really not sure

Re: Unbelievable Game tonight For Red Sox Rookie

You also have to look at who you are. The Sox are a team that could acquire someone like Tejada to play SS for them next year and then who cares about Ramirez.

If you kept Ramirez, you wouldn't need to bother with Tejada, that's my point

exactly

And by an extension of your argument Blade, the Sox could sign Johan Santana, and then who cares about Beckett?

If I was Theo Epstein, and my options were Hanley and Johan or Tejada and Beckett, I'm taking Hanley and Johan

Re: Unbelievable Game tonight For Red Sox Rookie

but then you wouldn't have Beckett who is tearing it up this year. It's a lot easier for them to acquire a guy like Tejada now because he doesn't want to play in Baltimore anymore and they don't really want him either.

Edit: Santana is a little different. When he's a free agent what he'll be asking for is the world.

I hate the thought of Santana in another uniform, even if I'm a sox fan it just wouldn't feel right not getting pwnt by Santana 99 billion times a year
