| MLB - HOF if they retired today Of these players who would make it in the HOF if there career came to a conclusion today. I think alot of these are sure fire HOF'ers, but I think people were a little generous in the football thread. Clearly some will belong in and some will be obvious misses. Your call to decide which ones. Barry Bonds Ken Griffey Jr. Alex Rodriguez Roger Clemens Pedro Martinez Manny Ramirez Tom Glavine Jason Giambi Craig Biggio Frank Thomas Sammy Sosa Jorge Posada Mike Piazza Ivan Rodriguez Miguel Tejada Gary Sheffield Chipper Jones Vladdy Guerrero Albert Pujols Damn, there are alot of good players in baseball right now and I didnt even really do the pitchers. Discuss. | |||||||||||||||

| Re: MLB - HOF if they retired today Ok, this is the era of steroids, and we dont know exaclt who did what so i am not judging them on that.. Barry Bonds - Home Run King? uhh duh Ken Griffey Jr. -Could of been the greatest ever, still one of the greatest, and a great man. He is in. Alex Rodriguez- The future home run king, already in 500 club, if he retired today, he is in. Roger Clemens- Dont they already saw future hall of famer? lol.. ya he is in.. Pedro Martinez- I am going to say no.. Dude was playing in triple A the other day and got two home runs on him.. What has he done lately? Manny Ramirez- I would say yes, but I had to think about this one a little more. Tom Glavine- 300 wins? That aint easy to do. Yes Jason Giambi- I am going to say no. Craig Biggio- Best 2nd baseman ever. Awesome hitter.. Good all around player. Great man. He is in no doubt in my mind. Frank Thomas- Close, but he gets in. Sammy Sosa- 600 home runs gets you in. Jorge Posada- No. When his careers is all over with maybe, but if it was over today, no. Mike Piazza- Yes. Ivan Rodriguez- Greatest catcher of all time IMO. World Series ring, multiple time batting champion and multiple time golden glove winner. He is in. Miguel Tejada No Gary Sheffield - I am on the fence Chipper Jones- I would say yes. Vladdy Guerrero - Not yet Albert Pujols- Not Yet | |||||||||||||||

| Re: MLB - HOF if they retired today Greg Maddux is in. The thing with the HOF is, it's not whether they deserve it, it's whether they can get a 75% vote so.... Bonds... maybe Rodriguez... no doubt Griffey... sadly no Clemens... duh Martinez... no Glavine... yes Giambi... no Biggio... no Thomas... no Sosa... no Posada... no Piazza... no Rodriguez... yes Tejada... no Sheffield... no Jones... no Guerrero... maybe Pujols... maybe | |||||||||||||||

| Re: MLB - HOF if they retired today When I say "yes", that means they'd get in if they retire today. Otherwise, I give an explanation Barry Bonds - Yes Ken Griffey Jr. - Yes Alex Rodriguez - Yes Roger Clemens - Yes Pedro Martinez - Yes Manny Ramirez - Not just yet, but almost there. He'll finish with the numbers necessary to get it Tom Glavine - Yes Jason Giambi - Not a chance Craig Biggio - Borderline...I think he'll get in Frank Thomas - Borderline, i think he'll get in Sammy Sosa - Yes Jorge Posada - Borderline, i think he'll fall short, unless he continues to play at this level for a few more years Mike Piazza - Yes Ivan Rodriguez - Yes Miguel Tejada - No Gary Sheffield - Maybe...needs a few more good years Chipper Jones - Maybe...I think he'll fall just short Vladdy Guerrero - Not yet...needs a few more years Albert Pujols - If he keeps up this pace, no doubt about it I'll add a few: Mariano Rivera - Yes Trevor Hoffman - Yes Billy Wagner - Just short Randy Johnson - Yes Greg Maddux - Yes David Ortiz - Not yet...depends on what he does the next few years Johan Santana - Like Pujols, he's well on his way John Smoltz - Yes Andruw Jones - Maybe, but I'm leaning towards no Ichiro - Depends on what he does, but he'll probably get in Jeff Kent - Close, but I think he'll be hurt by his bad reputation. Mike Mussina - No Jim Thome - Yes Omar Vizquel - Close, but I think he'll slip through the cracks and not get in Kenny Rogers - No Jason Varitek - No Kenny Lofton - I think he'll get some consideration, but won't quite get there Derek Jeter - Almost there, will definitely get in | |||||||||||||||

| Re: MLB - HOF if they retired today Look, it's not that I don't think he can get in. You misread, I believe the voters might not vote him in. Does he deserve it in my mind? Yes, But injuries really marred his career. I love Griffey to death, it's the committee I don't have any faith in | |||||||||||||||

| Re: MLB - HOF if they retired today Nah, there's no way. Stingy is one thing; batshit retarded is another. Even with all the injury problems, Junior has every credential imaginable (okay, save for a ring) to be a first-ballot hall-of-famer: the batting stats, the Gold Gloves, the MVP award. Hell, God-given talent aside, he's also one of the most charismatic, COOLEST athletes of our era: the flip-up sunglasses, the batting stance, the video games, The Simpsons episode. (I won't lie: I wrote him a letter when I was nine.) He made the MLB All-Century Team for cryin' out loud! Anyway. Ramble, ramble, ramble... | |||||||||||||||

| Re: MLB - HOF if they retired today I totally 100% agree with Freak...despite the injuries, the voters would be absolutely retarded not to vote him in | |||||||||||||||
