Re: NFL 2007 Predictions Thread

Haha dude, you have 18 winning records and only 10 losing records. You'd need to get rid of 21 wins to make your numbers crunch properly. I suppose that's why Danny said forget about records...

But seriously, explain to me how Mike Nolan wins COTY leading his team to a 9-7 record? That's barely an improvement over last year, and the 49ers are said to have vastly improved this offseason.

I couldn't decide between teams that could go 9-7 and just as easily go 7-9 so I gave them the bennefit of the doubt. I knew I had too many but I didn't want to get into it. I think everyone gets where I would place teams within their divisions.. I dunno..

Mike Nolan is winning COTY because the Niners are going to be the only team in the playoffs that wasn't there a year ago. I can't see giving the Chargers, Pats, Colts, Bears, etc.. many awards based on them doing what they should do.

Re: NFL 2007 Predictions Thread

Well you also have the Bengals and Broncos making it, which they didn't do last year.

Personally, I don't see any way you could give it to Nolan after barely ekeing out a winning record in his third year, especially after the offseason the 49ers just had. Dungy would be a default front-runner again just for sporting a 14-2 record, and then you also have new coaches in San Diego and Dallas winning divisions. Hell, Mike Shanahan would be a worthy candidate for getting back to the playoffs after such a hellacious Broncos offseason.

Obviously I get my kicks nitpicking your hypothetical predictions, haha. I'll post my own.

Re: NFL 2007 Predictions Thread

6-10 is a pretty generous estimate, but the Raiders have all the makings of an outstanding defense. Couple that with the fact that they get to play the Chiefs twice (who I think could be dreadful in 2007) and they could finish around 5-7 wins this year.

Re: NFL 2007 Predictions Thread

With that defense, I don't see any way they're as bad as last year. Looking at their schedule, none of the following would come as major upsets if the Raiders won:

Week 1 vs. Detroit
Week 3 vs. Cleveland
Week 4 @ Miami
Week 7 vs. Kansas City
Week 8 @ Tennessee
Week 9 vs. Houston
Week 11 @ Minnesota
Week 12 @ Kansas City
Week 14 @ Green Bay

To me, those are nine winnable games (not to say I'd favour them), not even considering the chance of pulling off a real upset -- and with an athletic, turnover-driven defense like that, a real upset's not beyond the realm of possibility.

I can see six wins.
