Batter Teixeira to the Yankees. Will this ever happen?

The New York Yankees, if they edge closer in the AL East and wild card races, may have a chance to save this season at the July 31 trade deadline.

To make a big-impact move, such as landing Texas Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira, who has generated weeks of internal discussion, the Yankees would probably need to part with a high-profile prospect.

Do you think this trade will happen? New rumors come up every week. I don't think this will happen, and if Tex goes to a new team, I can see either L.A Dodgers, or maybe the Braves.

Re: Teixeira to the Yankees. Will this ever happen?

Slim, although our resident Yankees guru Tom Dogg would be better suited to answer this I suspect the Yankess aren't going to try too too hard to acquire him. Reason being? I think they will go hard after Johan Santana.

Not to metion the Yankees arent exactly stacked in the top prospects department.

For some reason I feel tike Tex goes to Seattle. I don't know why, but I really feel like Seattle is going to push crazy hard for a title run.

Re: Teixeira to the Yankees. Will this ever happen?

I dont think Texeira will come ot the Yankees for a few reasons:

1. Offense is not the problem. The Yankees are one of the top-scoring offenses in MLB. Getting Teixeira would be like putting spinning rims on a car with no transmission

2. The Yankees do have top-level prospects, specifically pitchers, but have shown an unwillingness to part with them. It is Cashman's new mantra...don't mortgage the future for the present.

3. Andy Phillips has played pretty well since his call-up. Maybe he'll come back down to earth a bit, but the Yankees don't need to make a panic move for a first baseman

So, if I had to put money on it, I'd say the Yankees do not make a serious run at Teixeira

Re: Teixeira to the Yankees. Will this ever happen?

this is the latest from espn.com

Executives with other teams believe that the Texas Rangers are definitely intent on trading first baseman Mark Teixeira before the July 31 trade deadline, which would make Teixeira the most prominent player dealt.

The rival executives say that the Rangers' demands for Teixeira have come down bit by bit. In addition, the Rangers feel they can get one or more of the targeted prospects that they can ask for from the targeted teams.

At the outset of the Teixeira trade talks, for example, the Rangers had insisted the Yankees include either Jaba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes, one of the Yankees' top pitching prospects, and had asked the Dodgers for three top prospects. They had asked the Red Sox for pitcher Clay Buchholz and center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury.

The Angels, Braves and Giants are also involved in talks for Teixeira.

The Braves are currently starting Julio Franco at first. they could REALLY use Teixeira

btw, the Rangers GM went to my high school, and he's only three years older than me...

Re: Teixeira to the Yankees. Will this ever happen?

nope, didnt know him. My h.s. was small by NYC standards, so I knew of the vast majority of people within two years of me, and even a few people that graduated his year, but not him specifically.

Also, my school was grades 7-12, and they dont take any new students after 7th grade, so you're with the same people for 6 years, so it's easy to know everybody. Which makes it more suprising that I didnt know him...

Re: Teixeira to the Yankees. Will this ever happen?

That's gotta be the life. Late 20's and a fucking GM..holy crap.

Anyway, the asking price for Tex is too much right now. IF the Rangers really want to get rid of him if I were a team looking.. I'd wait until the last minute.

Braves could use him yes, but lets remember.. the Braves can't even sign Andruw Jones, how are they going to sign him? I'm not giving up a couple top prospects to use this guy for a couple months..

Re: Teixeira to the Yankees. Will this ever happen?

Looks like he might go to the braves...

Quote:
The Atlanta Braves, according to major-league sources, have made the Texas Rangers a tremendous offer for Mark Teixeira.

The Rangers would receive three highly regarded young players – catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class AA left-hander Matt Harrison and Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus – while sending the Braves only Teixeira.

Re: Teixeira to the Yankees. Will this ever happen?

It's not a bad deal at all. Yes, I would miss Jarrod, but other then that the Braves would be giving up two prospects, while projected to be at least something worthwhile, are still in A ball and AA and players that young in their career, who knows?

Braves need hitting in the worst way.

One issue though and I've brought it up before, How will they sign him to a long extension? They can't.. They can't even sign Andruw right now.
