so, because he was awesome in the past means he should be an All-Star before other really good catchers who may have better numbers?

I guess Roger Clemens should be an all-star too, then...

How about bringing Cal Ripken out of retirement and making him an All-Star?

no tom, I was just stating a fact i was not sure a lot of people knew about pudge being to the all star game more then any other catcher. It had nothing to do with why I think pudge should be on the list. And no i dont think roger should go, nor do I think just cause cal ripken was a great player they should bring him out to play. That is ridiculous. I was just saying I agree with jay, and i am a pudge fan and he is awesome.

I actually agree with your list, and I think it is very good.

Strangely enough, I'd almost certainly rather watch football and/or hockey in any other instance.
yeah, I think it's become kinda fashionable to bash the all-star game, and I really don't understand why.

every year, people complain about the Pro Bowl, saying "This is pathetic, nobody plays hard, everybody's afraid to get hurt, this is not fun to watch".

Every year, people complain abou the NBA all-star game, saying "There's no defense, it's just one big, long lay-up and dunk drill, it's pathetic"

And, nobody even knows what channel to watch hockey on.

So, I dont understand what would potentially make MLB's game so much worse. At the very least, it's better than the Pro Bowl (which is god awful)

As for the "now it counts" thing...Before they instituted that rule, everybody complained about how meaningless the game was, and how Selig needed to do something to make the game mean something. The common suggestion was to make it determine World Series home-field advantage. So, Selig went with the popular suggestion, and guess what: Now people are complaining that making it count for WS home-field is stupid. Some people (especially in the media) just cant be pleased

well, thank you, Slim

By the way, I didn't mean to misinterpret your post...just feeling a little salty now, is all.

I realize that sometimes when I defend my opinions (especially about sports), I can come across as a little douche-baggy...I dont mean to sound that way...

Re: The should-be all-star teams

by the way...narrowing down the list to 32 is really really hard...all the guys that I listed in my honorable mentions (and even a few that I didnt mention, such as Pudge) definitely have All-Star credentials...Besides a few slam-dunk selections, it's pretty hard to compile a good, well-rounded all-star team

Re: The should-be all-star teams

I respect your opinions Tom, I was just trying to offer up some debate to your list. I think that your list is very well done, and represents the majority of players I picked for the all-star game.

By the way, I HATE the fact that the fans pick the all stars now. They really need to go back to the coaches picking the team.

I know you have the Brewers pretty well-represented, but how can Francisco Cordero not make it?
