Half-back Head makes Hull switch

Half-back Head makes Hull switch

Hull have signed Matthew Head until the end of the season in a bid to help the club reach the play-offs.

The Australian half-back will arrive at the KC Stadium after agreeing a switch from St George-Illawarra.

Head, 25, may make his debut in Sunday's Super League game with Salford and is viewed as a replacement for Paul Cooke, who joined Hull KR in April.

Coach Peter Sharp said: "I believe Matthew will provide the team with the X-factor we are currently missing."

Head has long been linked with a move to Hull but problems with his knees initially cast doubts over any move.

But now with assurances over his fitness, Hull chief executive James Rule says the move could extend into 2008 and beyond.

Rule confirmed: "If Matthew plays well and we like what we see and he is also happy then there is a possibility of looking at a longer deal.

"The option is on the table and we'll just have to see what happens between now and the end of the season."

Head said: "I have always wanted to come over and play in England and now I have got the opportunity.

"After my knee reconstruction a couple of years ago I had a few problems afterwards but that's all clear now and nothing is going to hold me back."

Hull currently lie eighth in the Super League table and sit one point out of the play-off spots and three points above bottom club Salford.
