McLaren Cleared By FIA.

From: BBC

Quote:
McLaren have been cleared of any wrongdoing following an investigation into whether they illegally used team orders at the Monaco Grand Prix. Governing body the FIA said after studying the race that McLaren "did nothing which could be described as interfering with the race result".
McLaren admitted that they had asked Lewis Hamilton not to challenge team-mate Fernando Alonso for victory.
But the FIA declared McLaren's actions "entirely legitimate and reasonable".
McLaren's argument before the investigation, which was upheld by the hearing, was that Hamilton had been deployed before the race with a one-stop strategy in mind, while Alonso was on the optimum two-stop strategy.
This was with a view to Hamilton being able to compete if a safety car had been deployed, as it has been in four of the previous five races.

As this did not happen, McLaren opted to bring Hamilton in a second time, thus ensuring he had the necessary fuel to secure second place.
The FIA statement continued: "Had the car in front of Hamilton not been his team-mate, McLaren might (probably would) have decided to risk the safety car and let Hamilton run for as long as his fuel allowed in the hope he would come out of the pits in the lead after one of his pit stops.
"There is, however, no obligation on them to take this risk in order to overtake their own car. Indeed it would be foolish to do so."
It added: "It is standard procedure for a team to tell its drivers to slow when they have a substantial lead and it is also standard practice and entirely reasonable to ask the drivers not put each other at risk."

What a bunch of bull.

The drivers should be allowed to race each other dependent of what team they are on.

All the talk about making sure he had enough fuel is crap as they would of planned that out before the race and obviously put enough in during his pit stop.

Its a shame Hamilton is with the World Champion as if he wasn't i'm sure they would of let him loose.

Yet another sport (to go with Athletics and Boxing....see Dwain Chambers thread) that is completely lost to me.

Used to be good, now guys rarely try to pass each other, preferring instead to just try and get out of the pit lane quicker, which makes attrocious viewing.

The only reason I've been vaguely interested so far is to see what this Lewis Hamilton is like. He seems a cool guy, and is lucky to be in such an excellent car for his first drive, but F1 is just fast cars going around in a procession.

Lewis Hamilton will win one sooner or later, I mean yeah it was wrong and against the rules but they were just looking out for the best interests of the McLaren team, 1st and 2nd in a race is a good result for a team.
