I'm watching the Indians vs. Redsox's game now I think I might've just saw the worst call ever. Not dramatic, but just terrible call.
Situation:
9th inning, Indians have the bases loaded with Casey Blake at the plate. Blake has 2 strikes against him already. Red Sox's pitcher throws one inside, Blake attempting to avoid being hit, hits the ball with the bat. Keep in mind, he completely turned his body and head, and kept the bat close to his body. The ball after hitting the bat goes into the stands. Originally the umpire calls it as being hit by the pitch, walking in a runner. Red Sox manager comes out and protests, and he convinces the home plate ump to change the call to Casey Blake being out completely ignoring the fact that the ball went into the stands. It's a foul ball even if you do consider it to be a swing!
I saw the replay. I'm not sure, but I think there's a rule that if you swing and miss and the ball hits you, you are out. If that is the case, then the ump ruled that the ball hit Blake, not the bat, and thus it's a swing and miss, not a foul ball.
I'm not 100% sure if thats the rule, but that seems to make the most sense

You might be right. I wonder if there is a rule, similar to if you attempt to bunt on a strike 3 pitch and hit it foul.
First bases were not loaded runners were on 2nd 3rd, Blake was ruled to have swung at a pitch that hit him on the hand. The ball didn't hit the bat, it hit blakes hands so it was called a stikeout. Personally I thought he checked his swing, but the first base umpire ruled that he swung.
