Strange article just popped up on MSN about Favre being so pissed that Randy Moss went to the Patriots he wants a trade. Clicky clicky:

Re: Favre wants out of the Bay?

lol. Can anyone take Favre serious anymore? I know he's a hero in the Bay but something has got to give. He's just been more of a destraction it seems then anything else the last couple of seasons. Plus, it's definitely time for someone else to play the position. They have some young guys who need to step in there and find out what they got.

Re: Favre wants out of the Bay?

God, stop calling it THE BAY.

To address these recent rumours: I honestly can't blame Brett, and I really wouldn't hold the remarks against him. The team is clearly in a re-building mode -- which I believe is best for the Green Bay Packers -- and Favre is an old guy who wants to win now. He's been the saviour of this franchise and he's earned his right to voice his opinion. What irks me a little (and frankly, I'm not sure if I believe them to be true) are the rumours that he asked for a trade (also, according to rumours, he's "fine" now). Brett should be smart enough to know that the best chance he's got to win a championship this year (albeit a slim one) is with Green Bay; no other team that needs a starting QB is going to contend.

As far as Favre being in Green Bay right now: I'll say it time and time again, but Brett Favre is clearly the best quarterback for the Packers right now, and it would be idiotic to bench him in favour of a guy (Rodgers) who's never really impressed in practice or preseason games. Brett was very solid last year, and he led an overachieving team to an 8-8 record. Sure, he looked hopeless on some of those throws he tried to make, but that's what happens when your top wideouts come down to Ruvell Martin and Carlyle Holliday. I'm sure that's why he was so pissed when the team couldn't acquire Moss.

Anyway, homer alert, maybe, but if Brett shows up to play this year, the Packers could easily make some noise in a wide open NFC.

Re: Favre wants out of the Bay?

And just one more thing: Aaron Rodgers is still only 23 years old, so it's not like he's growing old and decrepit on the bench. Frankly, I've never had a good feeling about Rodgers, and I was half-pulling for Ted Thompson to just draft Brady Quinn when he had the chance.

Re: Favre wants out of the Bay?

The only other teams that I could see him going to if this rumor was true is a team like Cleveland or Oakland where they are rebuilding and would want to squeeze some mentorship out of him for their rookie QB... Basically the same that is going on in Green Bay right now.

Re: Favre wants out of the Bay?

Why should he care? He's going to end up missing them by five feet and getting picked more often than not anyway.

Favre's probably trying to figure out how to pull of a Clemensesque "I wanna play, but just the 8 home games and for a whole shitload of money" deal right now.

"I was frustrated a couple weeks back when Randy Moss was traded to New England," Favre said on the Packers' Web site. "I never wanted to be traded and I don't want to be traded. I want to be in Green Bay. I want to finish my career as a Packer."

It's an attempt by the three-time MVP to calm the maelstrom that started when he spent Saturday venting about the Packers' front office in a handful of interviews at his charity golf tournament. Fox Sports' Web site reported Sunday that Favre's agent called Packers general manager Ted Thompson shortly after last month's NFL draft to request a trade.

That request was denied, according to the report, and Packers coach Mike McCarthy eventually calmed Favre down and got him to admit that he never really wanted to play elsewhere.

"Sometimes when I get frustrated, I let my emotions got the better of me," Favre said in the statement.

Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, did not return a call from The Associated Press.

"As I said in February when I announced that I was coming back, I am excited about the young talent on our team and the improvements we're going to see from one year to the next," Favre said. "I really enjoy the young guys I'm playing with. I'm working hard down in Mississippi right now, rehabbing, and I plan to be in the best shape of my life. I look forward to playing with this team and seeing what we can do. I think we can be pretty good."
There you have it from the man himself.

Oh, get off it.

The guy's been a pillar in the NFL for 17 years, the saviour of the Green Bay Packers franchise, the only 3-time NFL MVP -- and in case you didn't get the memo, he's started an NFL-record 257 consecutive games at quarterback.

I'm real sure he'd like to take some games off.

One thing I've always loved about Brett is that he speaks off the cuff, that he's honest about his feelings, and that it's obvious how passionate he is about football and winning. Like I thought, the "trade request" never happened; he was just pissed that the team missed out on Moss (like many Packers fans), and he made it known.

Re: Favre wants out of the Bay?

I think it's certainly possible that he said something in frustration like "Well, if you're not going to improve the team around me, then just trade me", but that doesn't mean he meant it.

we all say things in frustration that we don't mean, it's just that we don't all live such public lives that every word we say is scrutinized
