Was Sven all that bad?

Will history re-write (particularly if MacLaren continues ballsing up) that Sven was "not so bad" a manager after all?

I heard someone making the point the other day that, when Sven came in, we were a team that struggled to make the major tournos. We "usually" did, but it was not often anything but a struggle.

And then he arrived and we qualified easily for tournos, but couldn't get past the final 8.

Now he's gone.....we've gone back to "default". Once again we're struggling to qualify for a tournament.

What's your take on Sven? Will history be kinder than the current reputation of the man (leaving aside money etc, just concentrating on footie)? Or will people believe that Sven had a better squad than before or after his reigns and therefore should have done better?

Neither Sven or McClaren aren't that bad. I think Sven was slightly better since he (in my eyes) is more of a manager, and McClaren is more of a coach. McClaren is a great number two, but not a convincing number 1. Much like Brian Kidd.

I think the main problem is the media. If they left both guys alone they'd have done a better job, and maybe with the lack of pressure the team could have gone into games against Portugal and Brazil feeling a little less strained, which could have helped them to victory.

I dont buy the better squad arguement. In my opinion this is the best england team player for player in quite some time. The players didnt perform and the Sven didnt seem to be bothered trying to motivate them. McClaren is pretty much the same in my eyes, only poorer tactitally.
