Andrea Bargnani expects to start full basketball work in a week and play as soon after that as he can.
The 7-foot Raptor rookie did some light jogging at the Air Canada Centre today, his first work in the gym since having his appendix removed eight days ago.
"I will wait one more week to do contact, to have basketball contact and I can start gradually to get my shape back," he said. "If she says after one week I'm okay, I'll need a couple of practices and then (I can) play.
The Raptors, who are off to face the Washington Wizards tomorrow night, dearly need Bargnani back and healthy for the playoffs. While they've been able to get through his absence in the short term, not having his defence-stretching shooting coming off the bench would be a crippling long-term blow.
Bargnani, who made a silky-smooth three-pointer the first time he touched a ball after his short workout, said the pain from the procedure is pretty much gone.
"There is a little, but that's normal," he said.
Good to hear hes progressing so fastly, Hopefully we can get him back for Toronto's play off and take a good swing at things. Also its nice to hear that he makes his first three pointer after not even touching a basketball since his surgery lol
