David Healy is hoping to make the Euro 2008 finals after his brace gave Northern Ireland a 2-1 win over Sweden at Windsor Park on Wednesday evening.
The victory saw NI replace the Swedes at the top of their qualifying group.
"As long as I can score goals and we can win games, who knows what can happen next year," said the Leeds ace. "It was a great occasion - we let ourselves down badly in our first game against Iceland but we've come on leaps and bounds to lead the group."
Healy, who has now scored nine goals in the Euro 2008 campaign, added: "The second goal was probably the sweeter as it was the winner but my first was definitely the better strike, although all goals at Windsor Park are sweet.
"When we met up last week Lawrie (Sanchez) gave us the group table to show what it would be like to be top of the standings - thank God we are. That's five goals in two games and hopefully I can return to Leeds and score some goals to help the club stay in the Championship."
N Ireland manager Sanchez urged caution after another big win in Belfast, which followed famous victories over England and Spain.
"After six games to have 13 points is phenomenal but we'll probably need as many points if not more over the next six games," he said.
"It's been a great night, we'll enjoy it but we are only halfway there and there's a lot more football left in this group. If we give David Healy chances he will score. He had two chances and scored both - top class, world class finishing. It was a bit disappointing to give away the goal but we've got great resilience and that's been the trademark of this campaign."
So what do you think about Northern Irelands chances of getting to Euro 2008? I still think they'll stuff it up in the second half of the qualifying campaign, much like we (Wales) did 4 years ago. They've got two tough trips to Spain and Sweden, and neither will take the Irish lightly after defeat by them already this campaign.
And what about David Healy? This guy can't stop scoring when he pulls on the Green of Northern Ireland, yet he's struggling to get into the Leeds first team (from what I’ve heard), what's up with that? Is it time for a Premiership side to take a chance and sign up a proven international striker?
They have done brilliant to do what they have done so far both with difficult trips to Denmaek, Spain and Sweden to come I cant see them doing it, if they get third place that would be a great acheivment.
With David Healy I dont think it helps that he egts stuck out on the wing when he plays for them, and Mr Wise said last night that it the passionaite Northern Ireland crowd what makes him play so good, Im sure Healy and the Leeds crowd wont appreciate those comments
