Help Me, Premier Leaguers.

Ok. I've just got cable. So i get most of the Premier league games now on the sports channels. Only problem is i dont have a team to support. My boys Leeds havent been anyehere near the action for a while now.

So who should i adopt as my team. State ure reasons why and dont just say "Cos there good man!"

I wish my sex life was like ECW, first you get a One Night Stand followed by 2 months of nostalgic orgasms and then 6 months of constant sucking.

Re: Help Me, Premier Leaguers.

Help us out then Eric and tell us what you look for in a team.

Do you want an underdog team?

Do you want one challenging for honours?

Do you want a team that's considered a "sleeping giant" that may come good one day?

Do you want a team that's heavily supported or not?

Do you want a team that has Australian players in it?

Do you want a team that plays in a certain colour?!!

Do you want a team with a great ground?

Do you want a team that is very wealthy?

Answer those and give us more of a clue of what you're after!!

Re: Help Me, Premier Leaguers.

I initially went for Leeds cos of the Aussie contingent. I think i was leaning toward Blackburn when Lucas Neill was there...not sure if he still is. And similarly Everton with Cahill.

At the end of the day, i look for a promising team. Not actually the top dog, but a team that is always fighting with raw talent and has the potential to beat the top team when on-song.

Re: Help Me, Premier Leaguers.

From what you say I would recommend the following -

Bolton - They're established Prem, based in the North West, basically finish in the Top 10 most seasons now and usually upset a few of the big guns over the season. Old school manager who has around 50(!) nationalities mixed into his squad but no obvious Aussies. Not an attractive style of play but very efficient and hard working. Could well qualify for Europe this season

Blackburn - Again established, good manager (Mark Hughes) and upsetter of big guns from time to time. Have regularly qualified for Europe over last few seasons and usually have a good cup run over the season. Can't think of any Aussies currently there, I think Ryan Nelson is a New Zealander which could put you off. Could also be put off by horrid blue and white "quarters" jersey

Everton - Local rivalry with Liverpool for many moons but very much smaller relative these days (in terms of success at the least). Tim Cahill is a star player for them, which may help, tons of tradition, have never been relegated from the Prem. Lot's of tradition and history. Very good manager and a relatively (if defensive) style of play. Almost made it to qualifying for Champions League last season but f***ed up!! Have the potential to be a "big club" but that has been a tag to hang around their necks for way too long. Play in nice royal blue shirt!

Middlesbrough - Fair whack of cash there, excellent and devoted Chairman, had some success in winning League Cup and getting to final of UEFA Cup in recent seasons. Viduka, Schwarzer are noticeable Aussie contingent. Young manager, nice ground, play in red and white jerseys. Based in North East. Ex Leeds player Jonathan Woodgate also based there. Regular mid table in the Prem. Noted for beating Chelsea on a number of occasions in last couple of years.

Re: Help Me, Premier Leaguers.

Cheers, thanks for that. I'm leaning towards Everton, but i'll watch a few games first, see what i do and don't like. I do like Royal Blue :p

Out of curiousity, who's your team?

Lol, I don't count in the great scheme of footie fans on Monks.

I support a Championship side, Crystal Palace. Home (in the past) of the very famous Aussies Carl Veart, Kevin Muscat, Nicky Rizzo, Craig Moore and Tony Popovic!!

Re: Help Me, Premier Leaguers.

I'd actually go with Liverpool as they still have the awesome {when fit} Harry Kewell and also the robot that is Peter Crouch.

If however you are looking for a safe mid table team then Everton, Reading or Blackburn would be good safe teams to support

And this sounds like the European Champions from just not even two seasons ago to you?

In some ways yes.

OK they are considered one of the top 4 but they never seem to challenge for the premiership and only really have success in the cups.

Also there is the history behind Liverpool and like i said, they have the robot Peter Crouch

Re: Help Me, Premier Leaguers.

They're basically always in the top four, and very likely to win one trophy a season. I'd hardly also describe their team as having a lot of "raw" talent. They're all established international multi-millionaires....how "raw" are they??

They also have as much money as just about everyone except Chelsea.

Does that sort of huge club sound like what he was looking for?

In a lot of ways, no!!!
