Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk star Julius Aghahowa after the Nigeria striker was granted a work permit.
Aghahowa, 24, has signed for an undisclosed fee as Wigan boss Paul Jewell moves to strengthen his squad.
Jewell told Wigan's website: "Julius is a proven quality striker with a pedigree which is unquestionable."
Wigan are now waiting to discover if they can persuade Papa Bouba Diop to move to the JJB Stadium from Fulham.
On the capture of Aghahowa, Jewell added: "When Henri Camara comes back, and with Caleb Folan now on board, suddenly I have some real options in the striking department."
Diop, 29, is still pondering a potential £4m switch from Fulham.
Jewell said: "These things do take time. We had meetings again in London.
"We really want the player to come. We just have to give him as much of a chance to sort things out with Fulham.
"If it doesn't happen then it will be disappointing, but that's the way it is."
Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu said of the Aghahowa deal: "He wants to play in England and we decided to grant him his wish.
"Aghahowa has been with us for seven years and it's now time for him to move elsewhere," Lucescu added.
The striker was bought by the Donetsk side from Tunisia's Esperance for nearly £2m in 2000.
