Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale felt his side did not get going in their 1-0 FA Trophy defeat by Kidderminster.
Billy Jones missed a penalty for the Grecians against his former club as Harriers won through.
Tisdale said: "We are very disappointed - we created enough chances but missing the penalty had a major impact and we probably didn't do enough early on.
"It is bad enough that we have lost a cup game but now we have to ensure we don't lose heart and keep progressing."
