Padres invite Estes, Greene to spring training
SAN DIEGO Calif. -- The San Diego Padres agreed to minor league contracts with left-hander Shawn Estes and catcher Todd Greene on Saturday.
Both were invited to spring training.
Estes, who made one start for the Padres last season, had Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow June 7 and was put on the 60-day disabled list Aug. 25. He has pitched for seven teams during his 12-year career, including seven seasons with the San Francisco Giants.
Greene played in 61 games for the Giants last season, making 37 starts at catcher, and hit .289.
Estes will never be where he use to be I don't believe, but I think he can be good again these are similar to the Keith Foulke deal in Cleveland, it's only a year so if something goes wrong just you won't have them back...

This isn't a bad deal but nothing spectular. I believe Estes isn't anything special and doesn't show much when he is pitching. He's not only inconsistent but not a winning pitcher. I wouldn't be surprised if he stays in the Minors. Now for the Greene signing, it's awesome and smart. He showed last season he has a bright future and can lead the Padres team.
