Luke Varney hit his 19th goal of the season as Crewe grabbed a first win in seven games by beating Bournemouth.

The striker opened the scoring after just nine minutes, firing in a 25-yard half-volley which caught Bournemouth goalkeeper Neil Moss off his line.

The Cherries offered little in reply other than James Hayter's tame header, before Nicky Maynard tapped in for 2-0.

The result leaves Bournemouth manager Kevin Bond still looking for his first away win after three months in charge.
