According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, a source has indicated that the Sixers have been working on a potential buyout of the remainder of Chris Webber's contract.
Webber remained in the team's hotel last night during the game as he battled flu-like symptoms and a foot injury. He joined the team in time to ride the bus to the airport for the charter flight back to Philadelphia. This was the ninth game in the last 12 in which he was unavailable, in part because of right foot and ankle problems. He has a $20,718,750 salary this season and is due $22,312,500 next season. This could be Larry Brown's first order of business now that he's back in Philly.
They really need to as he's not worth 20 million dollars over the next two years, don't expect him to stay unsigned long as I'm sure someone will pick him up...
Thoughts?

He is asking quite the contract for just two years. I think he is over his head here, he isn't worth that much money and doesn't play for that money. Yeah, he isn't bad but he's no superstar. I hope the signs with the Sixers though becuase seems to fit in well with them.
They better be willing to pay him his money becuase he is worth 10 mil a year. Plus the 76ers need him becuase he dominates down low and helps them out big time overall. Hopefully they sign him becuase they need him.
With buyout completed, Sixers waive Webber
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers waived forward Chris Webber on Thursday, making the five-time All-Star eligible to sign with another team after clearing waivers.
The Sixers completed the paperwork to buy out the remaining 1½ seasons on Webber's contract Wednesday, ending two disappointing years in Philadelphia. Once he clears waivers after 48 business hours, teams will be eligible to sign him.
Webber missed 11 of the last 14 games, officially with foot and ankle injuries. He was due nearly $21 million this season and $22 million next season.
Webber, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1993 draft, averaged 11 points and 8.3 rebounds in 18 games this season. He has career averages of 21.4 points and 10 rebounds.
