Nott'm Forest 2-0 Charlton

League One side Nottingham Forest dumped Premiership Charlton Athletic out of the FA Cup at the City Ground.

James Perch headed the inspirational Nathan Tyson's cross wide before racing down the left to set up Junior Agogo, who slotted home from close range.

After Jonathan Fortune deflected on to his own crossbar, Grant Holt headed in another from Nicky Southall's centre.

Marcus Bent saw Paul Smith expertly save his mis-timed close-range shot but in truth Charlton offered little else.

606 DEBATE: Give your thoughts on this match

With Forest losing their last game 5-0 and Charlton theirs 4-0, you could have forgiven both teams for entering the game with a sense of foreboding.

But credit to the hosts - on the back of a run which has seen them lose a seven-point lead in League One to slip to third - as they dominated from the start at the City Ground.

Boss Colin Calderwood abandoned his usual 3-4-3 formation and went 4-3-3, with Tyson down the left causing immediate problems with his blistering pace.

Tyson went on a scintillating 70-yard run but stumbled before he could shoot inside the box, before he found space down the left and crossed for Perch to head wide from five yards.

Charlton replied when Bent lashed in a sizzler from 30 yards that moved in the air and forced Smith to punch over the bar.

But within the space of three minutes, Forest stunned their Premiership opponents by taking a 2-0 lead.

Agogo bagged the first, tapping in from four yards after a brilliant run down the right from Perch.

Fortune then crashed a Tyson cross against his own bar - the ball just bounced down over the line but the goal was not given - before Grant Holt doubled the lead, heading Nicky Southall's free-kick home from close range.

Either side of half-time Charlton improved, but for all their possession they looked desperately short of the cutting edge needed even to break down a League One side.

Darren Ambrose and Talal El Karkouri lashed wide from 25 yards before some rare sloppy defending from the hosts allowed Bent in and Smith smartly saved his mis-timed effort on the goalline.

Forest looked happy to sit on their advantage and sat deeper and deeper as the second half wore on, but they never looked in any real danger.
