Zito, Giants agree to terms on deal!

The deal, agreed to late Wednesday night, includes an $18 million option for 2014 that could increase the value to $144 million, an unidentified source told The Associated Press.

Gammons reports that Zito picked the Giants over the Rangers, Mets, Yankees and Mariners. In additon, sources told Gammons that the Yankees never made a formal offer.

Zito is 102-63 in 222 career starts, including a 16-10 mark with a 3.83 ERA in 34 starts this year before becoming a free agent.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Totally Shocked hear, I had heard about the M's, the Yanks, The A's, The Mets, and The Rangers going after him, but hadn't heard much talk on the Giants. 18 million a year is a bit too much for Zito IMO, but then again almost everyone has gotten more money than they deserve due to the lack of talent this offseason...

Thoughts?

This puts me into a serious depression. I was totally thinking he'd be signed by the Mets and it'll all good, but I guess not. Looks like Omar couldn't put enough money out of the wallet. All he would have to do was give him a reasonable contract and he would have accepted it but who knows. I hope Zito enjoys playing for a crappy team and enjoys listening to Barry's crap the whole season. Overall it's a horrible sign and I hope Zito pays for this mistake.

I agree, but these days you see lots of over paid players.

yea definitely with the lack of starting pitchers and overall talent this year...face it Gil Meche doesn't deserve 11 million a year, Suppan is not worth 10 million a year, Padilla is not worthy of 11 million, and Andy Pettite is definitely not worth 16 million. to pay Zito 126 million over 7 years and give him a no trade clause is ludacris!

I think the Giants answered the Jason Schmidt deal by getting a younger pitcher who does not have a history of injury problems.
