Are the Red Sox having second thoughts on signing J.D. Drew? They at least want a second opinion on the outfielder's physical exam results, The Boston Globe reported Sunday.

Drew is scheduled to have a second opinion Monday on a shoulder issue that came up in Drew's first exam, a source told The Globe.
The newspaper reported that it isn't known if the issue could void Drew's deal with the Red Sox. Boston reached a preliminary agreement on a five-year, $70 million contract with Drew at the winter meetings on Dec. 5.
The shoulder issue could cause the Red Sox to shorten the lenth of the agreement, or replace some guarantees with incentives, The Globe reported.
The 31-year-old Drew has had injuries throughout his career, but he played in 146 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season and hit .283 with 20 homers and a team-high 100 RBI. He became a free agent when he opted out of the last three years of his five-year, $55 million.
The injuries have added to negative perceptions that have followed Drew since the Philadelphia Phillies selected him No. 2 overall in the 1997 amateur draft. He did not sign, went back into the draft and was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals fifth overall the next year.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
The Red Sox will keep him no doubt in my mind, but I would of never believed he was having any trouble in his shoulder to begin with, hopefully he can get everything straighten out, but expect him in a Red Sox uniform though possibly for a bit less money...

This would be a huge "deal" if J.D. Drew can't go to Boston becuase he has injury problems. The Red Sox were looking good with him in Right Feild to and plus in the line-up. It would be a huge lose if he had to be sent back to L.A. and Boston wouldn't have him. I hate the Red Sox but hopefully Drew gets healthier and pass's the pyshical and comes to Boston.
They weren't going to trade Manny, talks came up and they listened, but none suited them so they decided to keep both players, depending on this second opinion may decide if Drew is a Red Sox still or not...If he isn't the Drew is back on the free agent market and the Indians, Rangers, Dodgers, Padres and Phillies would be going after him again...

This is a bit weird becuase it was declared he was heading to Boston about a week now, it's very late news. I hope J.D. Drew gets healthy and he ends up with the Red Sox becuase I was planning on watching him beast away with them.

Well it's because he agreed in principle to a deal, but all deals require a phyiscal, sometimes these physicals take days to a few weeks to finalize a deal, and that's exactly what happened here...

BOSTON -- Monday could be a pivotal day in the effort to finalize J.D. Drew's five-year contract with the Red Sox.
The Boston Globe reported Sunday that according to a Major League source familiar with Drew's background, the star outfielder is scheduled to have a second opinion after concerns arose last week about his shoulder during a team-mandated physical.
The club and Drew's agent, Scott Boras, reached agreement on a five-year contract worth a reported $70 million on Dec. 6. Both sides have maintained that only language issues have kept the deal from being finalized.
According to the paper, it's not known whether the physical issue could cause the deal to fall through or just require revision of the guarantees in the contract.
Another possibility includes the Red Sox shortening the length of the contract or putting more incentives based on Drew's playing time.
The Red Sox are declining comment for now. Drew also declined comment when reached at his Georgia home by the Globe.
Drew's career has been plagued by a number of injuries over his career, including patellar tendinitis in his knee while playing for the Cardinals. He has also been forced to overcome injuries to his back, wrist and shoulder.
