Report: Bears backup Griese gets more work

Griese has been receiving half of the reps in practice this week, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on its Web site, citing an unnamed player.

The change in preparation speaks volumes to the urgency the club feels with Grossman, whose disappointing 1.3 passer rating may have overshadowed the Bears' 23-13 victory over the Vikings. The increased workload could indicate the Bears are getting Griese ready to step in.

But Griese, who signed a five-year deal worth a minimum of $14 million in the offseason, said he hasn't been sucked into the quarterback controversy that surrounds the 10-2 Bears.

"None of this really matters to me," Griese told the Chicago Sun-Times. "I have one job, and that's to go out and prepare just like I have the entire season, and that's what I'm going to do this week. If [Lovie Smith] wanted you to know [how many reps I'm getting], he'd probably tell you so."

Grossman has fallen from being an NFC offensive player of the month to looking uncomfortable while making questionable decisions. And, apparently, his play is perplexing him as well.

"I just am so confused why I do some of the things I do," Grossman told the newspaper. "It just doesn't make any sense to me. It's not a matter of confidence. It's more of, what is making me do these things?"

Offensive coordinator Ron Turner said he has not informed Grossman that this is his last chance.

"I told him he needs to play better," Turner told the paper. "I told him we have to play better offensively."

I think Grossman needs to take a breake for a little bit before the playoffs start.

Griese Did good with the Bucs IMO, they should see what he can do because all ReX does is throw the deep ball up for grabs and gets picked off 9 times out of 10. But there 10-2, woo hoo!

I don't see Griese getting the start unless Rex has a bad game this week, he may then get it the following week. Lovie Smith has said numerous times that Rex is his guy and he's not getting benched, so unless he goes against his word I don't see it happening...

ya, Lovie is too trusting imo. They should get rid of Grossman for a game, although in about 3 weeks, when they have home field throughout the Playoffs, they will start resting people...

I never imagined Brain Greise would be seeking any kind of playing time with the Bears. I would think Lovie Smith would be putting in Kyle Orton sense Orton was a starter last year and could use some action this season and plus I like Orton much better than Griese sense he is much younger and will be around longer. But I do hope we see Rex finish the regular season off strong becuase he hasn't done that in a while.

Orton last year didnt average but liek 110 ypg?
They won becuase of there defense once again.
Brian is smart and if he gets time, which he should, they should have good games with him at the helm.

I hope at the end of the season, either Orton can contend for the starting job or be traded....he didnt do bad last year, just Grossman laid claim to the job and Orton couldn't even challenge it. He will probably start Week 15 or 16 to rest people for the playoffs.

they have to claim it first before they can rest, they are already guareenteed in the playoffs and the likely odds for the Home field advantage, but the seasons not over and anything can happen...a few more games for Grossman, then it goes to Griese, don't expect Orton back next year, I see him being cut or traded...
