Outfielder Jose Guillen and the Seattle Mariners have reached agreement on a one-year, $5 million contract, sources told Enrique Rojas of ESPNdeportes.com.
The contract also includes the possibility of another $3 million in performance-based bonuses. The deal has a $9 million option for the 2008 season.
The deal will be made official if Guillen passes a physical Monday.
"A lot of players don't like to play in Seattle because of the stadium, but I only need health, and I trust that my numbers will be there at the end of the season," Guillen told Rojas, though he did not confirm the contract.
Guillen, 30, batted .216 with nine home runs and 40 RBI with the Washington Nationals in 2006 but played in only 69 games because of an elbow injury that required reconstructive surgery at the end of the season.
Guillen hit .294 with 27 homers and 104 RBI in 148 games with the Anaheim Angels in 2004.
Seattle would be the eighth team in Guillen's nine-year MLB career.
Probably a good pick up for the Marniers as long as Guillen's knee holds up, if he can he should have a good year and improve the marniers outfield along with hitting...
Thoughts?

niiiiccceee, jose is pretty ape, i give him props, and i like the marineers, they should be a decent squad next year, but nothing to hype about, but ichiro and jose in the outfield, solid!

Looks like a solid deal to me. The mariners need a big bat and he is a person who can fill the whole. As long as he stays healthy he will have a huge season and be a big asset to the team. Good pick up overall and good luck to him and the mariners.
This could go either way. We all now Guillen hasn't been where he has been the last few years due to injury which seems not to leave him but then we see him doing well when he is heathly. So hrmm...It's a toss up on whether or not it is a good deal. It basically depends on if he gets injuried or not.
