Jeter, no Morneau wins MVP

Breaking News: Morneau Edges Jeter To Win AL MVP
21st November, 2006 - 2:06 pm
MLB.com - While the Twins had multiple candidates for the league's award, Justin Morneau came out on top Tuesday as he was announced as this year's American League MVP.

Despite many people expecting Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter to win the award, Morneau's breakout season earned him the honor bestowed by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Morneau received 15 first-place votes, eight seconds, three thirds and two fourths for 320 points in voting by a panel of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Jeter got 12 firsts, 14 seconds, one fourth and one sixth for 306 points.

All Morneau did in 2006 was to put together one of the best offensive seasons in Twins history. The first baseman hit .321 with 34 home runs, 97 runs scored and 130 RBIs, ranking second only to Boston's David Ortiz, who led the AL with 137 RBIs.
Jeter got robbed. You couldn't ask for a better year then what he did, Morneau? C'mon, he had a great year but he didn't have a better year than Derek Jeter OMG.

And earlier this morning this happened...

NY Post: Rumor Says Jeter And Morneau To Tie For MVP
21st November, 2006 - 10:29 am
New York Post - An unsubstantiated rumor was floating around baseball circles on Monday that Derek Jeter and Justin Morneau tied in the MVP voting.

"I am not allowed to say anything," said BBWAA secretary-treasurer Jack O'Connell, the man who counts the votes and will inform the winner this morning.

This is bullshit, Jeter deserved it more and I am in total shock.

Thoughts?

I saw an interview on Mike and the Mad Dog with a guy that voted. Mike and the Mad Dog did notihng but make him speechless because they strongly disagreed that he put Jeter 6th in the MVP rankings. Shows you more people agree on Jeter should have won the MVP award.

He said he picked Ortiz and Frank Thomas over Jeter because of their leadership and both of them keeping the team in the playoff race, and stats don't matter. Then 2 minutes later when they argue, he brings up Ortiz' stats and how amazing they are, Mike and the Mad Dog were actually laughing at the guy, he's a joke. He says Ortiz kept the Sox in playoff contention? Red Sox were out 1 1/2 months prior to seaons end.

Also, the people that do vote are stupid writers that know shit about the game and these votes could be either biased , they can be Yankee haters, or they could be retarded writers who knows. Last year this same guy put A-Rod 6th in the rankings as well in the MVP Race, they are a bunch of morons that messed this MVP Award up.

MVP should be voted by coaches and managers IMO, not media peeps, Jeter was big for the Yanks, but Morneau was great for the Twins, the Yanks could probably make the playoffs without Jeter due to their depth, The twins would have had no chance without Morneau

Anybody could be as good as Jeter with the batting lineup the Yankees have.
