Thomas gets a $9.12 million signing bonus that is payable January, a $1 million salary next year and $8 million in 2008. The deal includes a $10 million vesting option for 2009 that would become guaranteed if Thomas has 1,000 plate appearances in the next two seasons or 525 plate appearances in 2008.

Thomas led the Oakland Athletics with 39 homers and 114 RBI this year, batting .270. In 17 big league seasons, he has hit .305 with 487 homers and 1,579 RBI.
Very good pick-up for the Blue Jays as he should help the team very much as long as he can stay healthy, him not playing in the field always helps to conserve his health, but injuries are not a suprise to Thomas. I see him having another good years, not numbers like last year, but pretty well, I'm saying low 30's in Home Runs and about 87 RBI this year, not great, but good...Paid a bit too much for his contract, if it was someone like Yanks or somewhere then yes, but the Blue Jays need a power hitter for DH, and 2 years 18 mil. is a nice contract...Thoughts?

Go jays they are picking it up they have one of the best outfields in the league and decent pitching (need a stronger bullpen) i could see the jays taking the wildcard spot this year but they wont go anywhere with it

The Blue Jays have everything but Set-up men...they got a nice closer in B.J. Ryan, good starting pitchers, and nice outfielders now it should be complete for offensive side of the ball, I say they need to get a lefty like Ron Villone or someone like that, and it could really help them be a contender...

yea there bullpen is pretty fucken terrible, like they got the doc one of the best pitchers in the al, they have vernon wells, erik hinske, alex rios,
Those are three strong bats and all three are very versitile outfielders (erik kicked ass last year replacing rios when he was hurt) but we have no bullpen for bj

Commenting on the Big Hurt signing, it definitely sparked a big interest back in the Jays for me but its also a very big chance. Lotta money for someone that is 38(and very slow). Pitching was the real problem last year. They still need bullpen help and most likely a 5th starter. With the amount of money thrown at Thomas, unless they get a salary increase, they really dont have much cash to spend. In addition, you have your own free agents. Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe Speier, Lilly, Zaun and Molina are free agents. If Speier walks, your bullpen only gets worse. Lilly's certainly gone, Cat's gone. Also heard they're interested in Barajas, who could be their new catcher. Overall, a big risk. Im definitely excited though.
