The Patriots have inked up QB Vinny Testaverde, reports say they are also interested in acquiring Dan Marino and perhaps Dan Fouts. VinnyTestaverde, who came out of retirement last season to help out the New York Jets, was signed by the New England Patriots. The 43-year-old quarterback, the first overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1987 draft, has played 19 NFL seasons and has 269 touchdown passes, eighth in NFL history, and is sixth with 45,252 yards passing.
He becomes the third quarterback on the Patriots roster, behind Tom Brady and second-year man Matt Cassel.
The Patriots will be his sixth team.
In addition to the Buccaneers, he has played for Cleveland, Baltimore, the Jets and Dallas. He retired after playing with the Dallas Cowboys in 2004, but last season rejoined the Jets, for whom he played from 1998-2003.
Testaverde, who started four games for the Jets last season, became the first player in NFL history to throw at least one touchdown pass in 19 consecutive seasons. He completed 60 of 106 passes for 777 yards with one touchdown and six interceptions
The Pats don't need Vinny. When he played for the Cowboys, he was a sencond back up QB. Vinny with the Pats, OMG. I have to agree, whats the Coach doing signing Vinny with the Pats. Vinny sits on the bench doing nothing and still getting paid. Really now's there's a promblem.
Just stupid, he's 43 years old, and most likely isn't going to play anyway, his last few years have been terrible, yea Brady has had a few bad weeks, but who cares, no QB is going to be perfect...waste of money IMO

I think its stupid to play Vinne. He would be a great role model and supporter for Brady on the sideline why waiting to be on offense. But other then that i cant see him playin.
I just saw on ESPNEWS that the Patriots signed Vinny Testaverde. I have no clue why, unless they want to build depth. They seemed to have been really high on Matt Cassel as Brady's backup, but unless he either got hurt or has regressed I really can't think of a reason why they would bring in Testaverde. Maybe this is a way by Belichick to somehow spite the Jets.
The Pats are also taking out all the grass on their field and replacing it with FieldTurf. That's definitely never a bad idea. Their field has been shit for a while
I think it would have been different if they would have signed him as like a quarterback advisor, but as an active player is a bit of waste, paying him to dress up and look like he's going to play, can't give away money much more easier than that can you?

Thats good news, like you said the field is shit, expecialy in the rain its very sloppy. Good news.
Already scrambling to cobble together their secondary unit, the New England Patriots on Saturday evening lost two more starters, as cornerback Asante Samuel and free safety Eugene Wilson were both downgraded from "doubtful" to "out" for Sunday's game at Green Bay.
The loss of Samuel (knee) and Wilson (hamstring) means that the slumping Patriots, who have dropped two straight games, will face the resurgent Packers with just one player, cornerback Ellis Hobbs, who started in the secondary in the season opener. It marks the second consecutive year in which New England has been significantly weakened in the secondary because of injuries.
Strong safety Rodney Harrison, who started the first eight games after rehabilitating from a catastrophic knee injury in 2005, is sidelined by a fractured scapula, and is out indefinitely. Wilson has played in just one of the past six games. And Hobbs is playing despite a broken wrist.
Samuel, who leads the team with three interceptions, had been the only player in the secondary to start in each of the Patriots' first nine games.
New England started four different secondary combinations in the first nine games and will have to go with a fifth on Sunday at Lambeau Field against a Packers team that has won three of its past four games, and has an offense that statistically ranks No. 7 in the league.
It is likely that veteran Chad Scott, who started last week at strong safety, will move to cornerback, where he has played most of his career. Another former cornerback, Artrell Hawkins, will probably start at free safety and second-year veteran James Sanders could get his first start of the season at strong safety.
The Patriots rank 23rd in the NFL in defense versus the pass and are catching Green Bay and quarterback Brett Favre at a time when the Packers' passing game has demonstrated much improvement. Favre is not turning the ball over nearly as much and wide receiver Donald Driver leads the NFC in catches, with 56.
Bad for Patroits fans out there, to have your secondary starting to crumble again, and Green Bay is no blow over team either, could it be three loses in a row, could very well be...Thoughts?
