Re: Mock NFL 2007 Entry Draft

Pretty good job, but a few of the picks really bother me.

First off, there's no way in hell Leon Hall is going in the top five of this draft, especially to the Cleveland Browns. At this point, he's a lesser prospect than Darrelle Revis, and there are way, way bigger needs for the Browns to address. Most mocks I've read have them taking Adrian Peterson if he falls that far; if he's gone, Joe Thomas would be a great pick, as would any of the big defensive linemen. The Browns actually have pretty decent corners (Chad Johnson even said so!). Hall might go top 15, but I'd be shocked if he went in the top 10.

Second, as I said about a month ago, the 49ers would be fools to take an offensive player in the first round -- especially one so unpolished and uncertain as Ted Ginn. Of course he's a playmaker, but unless my team was really set all-around and with no great needs, I wouldn't even consider Ginn in the top 20. If LaRon Landry or Amobi Okoye are around at #11 (which they are in your mock), the 49ers have to pounce on one of them, no doubt about it. With Gore and Vernon Davis, combined with an absolutely wretched defense, devoid of any real future stars, they have to go defense.

As for Okoye, I really see him climbing into the top 10, if not all the way to the Bucs at #3. He's that kind of prospect -- 19 years old, smart as hell, all the potential in the world.

The last thing I'll say (I have to go watch the Daily Show) is that I'd be very upset if Marshawn Lynch is the Packers' pick at #16. Running back is obviously a need at some point, but with the new zone blocking scheme, and Morency/Green running well last year, it's pretty far down the ladder in my book.

I really really really hope the Giants take a cornerback. Unfortunately, I dont watch enough college football to actually know who's good and who isnt

Re: Mock NFL 2007 Entry Draft

The guy he's got going to NYG, Darrelle Revis, is probably the best corner in the draft -- but I don't expect him to last that far.

Re: Mock NFL 2007 Entry Draft

Yes Far and Away Revis is the best cover corner in the draft. Cover Corner, that's why Leon Hall is up there, He's not just a cover corner he can zone cover also. And yes the Browns have talent at CB but one major problem with that talent. It can't stay healthy. I don't think they'd take Joe Thomas to be completely honest, after giving Kevin Shaffer (who is a natural LT) a huge contract I just don't see them up and moving Shaffer/Thomas.

Amobi Okoye is the most interesting prospect in this entire draft. Some people think he's overrated and have him in the 2nd Rnd and some have him as the 2nd pick overall. The only major question is size. He needs to put on a few pounds of muscle and I think he's a definite early 1st Rnd pick.

The Niners are a confusing bunch. As I broke down tape of the Niners I found their biggest problem... Inconsistency, there defense looked like a top 5 defense for one series then the next they looked like a bottom 5. I think with Alex Smith, Frank Gore, and Vernon Davis they have a good start. My feeling is they take the BAA(Best Athlete Available). I'm curious though as they might fill one of their defensive needs through Free Agency and be able to take Ginn. I think Ginn would make the Niners a West contender(that's not saying much though)

And the Packers taking Marshawn Lynch, it all depends on the offseason if one of the following happens I think they almost NEED to take Lynch, a.)Favre Retires, b.)Ahman Green leaves via Free Agency(he is a UFA) c.) They fail to pick up an adequate starter at HB if Green leaves.

Re: Mock NFL 2007 Entry Draft

I would watch for the Broncos to look into a CB in the early rounds or making some kind of move to bring one in to fill Darrent Willaims spot.

Re: Mock NFL 2007 Entry Draft

Although the Broncos do need to fill Darrent Williams spot I don't see it as a first-round need. This draft isn't an elite CB draft so they could pick up another guy in the third round who has upside. Also I guess people must forget but Dominique Foxworth is still there, he doesn't have the stats or name like Darrent Williams but he is a definite contributor

I hope to god you're not talking about Troy Smith. If you are please just go away. Troy Smith is not a first-rounder, he's not even a first-day pick really. If i had to pick one player to best Vince's 6 on the wonderlic no doubt it would be Troy Smith. He's not a very aware player he goes based on instincts. Not good in the NFL(see Leaf, Ryan; McNown, Cade; Smith, Akili; Couch, Tim). But unlike those guys Smith is undersized. Vastly undersized at 6'0" not many QB's make it at only 6'0" especially ones with very little awareness. Smith is a project 3rd Round pick at best. Also Smith has no pure passer skills which will hurt him in the NFL to me JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Kevin Kolb, Jordan Palmer, John Beck, John Stocco, Trent Edwards and Drew Stanton should be taken before Smith.
