Real coach calls time on Beckham

Real coach calls time on Beckham

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has revealed that David Beckham will not play for the club again after agreeing to sign for Los Angeles Galaxy.

Capello said: "Beckham will train with the team but he won't play."

He added: "He has always been a great professional, but a player who has such an important contract with another club, we cannot count on him."

The 31-year-old former England captain has agreed a five-year contract with the Galaxy worth around £128m.

Capello added: "The fact he wanted to go was down to him, not to me."

Galaxy may now even look to take him to California in time for the start of the MLS season in April.

Asked whether Beckham might leave the Bernabeu before the end of his contract, Capello said: "You will have to ask Beckham that question."

Beckham has found his first-team opportunities in Spain limited following the arrival of former AC Milan, Roma and Juventus coach Capello last summer.

Capello only gave Beckham a starting role for Real in five league games this season and the club are currently third in the Spanish Primera Liga, five points behind leaders Sevilla.

To be honest I was expecting this. Capello wouldn't have liked all he's seen this week regarding Beckham appearing on American televison all week. As a manager you always have to question a players commitment to a team once he's signed a pre-contrat with another team.

Unless Beckham wants 6 months rest from football (which I highly doubt) he'll have to go on loan to another club. I'd love it if he came back to Old Trafford untill the end of the season, but I doubt that'll happen. And Mikk, there's no chance of him going to Sunderland.

Arsene Wenger has always had a soft spot for Beckham. Maybe a tranfer to the Emirates is on the cards?

I think the only two English clubs Beckham would go to are either Man Utd or Spurs. However with the prospect of not playing for 5 months, beggars can't be choosers. So Arsenal and Chelsea could come into the equation.

Only reason I mentioned it is because I think it was after his first season at Real and things weren't going that great, Wenger came out and said that he told Beckham if he ever wanted to come back to England he could count on Arsenal offering him a club. I don't see why they need him but imagine Beckham putting in crosses for Henry and Van Persie and Adebeyor.

Spurs have more men in their squad than some small countries have in total so I don't think he'll go there but Man Utd maybe.
