| I don't really have a favorite team but however, zbtmontoya, maybe you shouldn't be a Giants fan, I believe your team has a.)made the playoffs the past two years. b.)had a winning record the past two years. i don't think they have as many problems as you think. I mean for god sakes, give Eli a chance, this is his THIRD YEAR!! Last I checked most QB's don't develop until their 5th-6th year Everybody goes through a growing period. as for RB, in a deep underpreforming class they might be able to pick a solid back like Kenny Irons, Michael Bush, Ken Darby, and Ray Rice they could get a CB early like Tom said | |||||||||||||||

| I'm perfectly content with seeing what Brandon Jacobs can do. In limited action this season, he was pretty awesome. I've heard that they are interested in bringing in Michael Turner from San Diego, who would be the perfect alternative to Jacobs. The Giants blew several 4th quarter leads/ties this year (Tennessee, Philly twice, Dallas), and could not count on the defense to make a stop when they needed it. Also, teams were picking the Giants apart in the passing game all year. They need secondary help in the worst way. They've got tons of good young talent on the D-line, and I'm happy with Antonio Piece. Outside linebacker and CB are the obvious glaring holes on the Giants team. WR is a need as well. As for Eli, it's become very fashionable in New York to say that he'll never be anything and to get rid of him. I'm not going to rush to judgement like that. He's had moments of brilliance, and he's had some rough times. But I certainly don't think he's done. It's a lot more media-led nonsense. I hate the fucking sports media... | |||||||||||||||

| LOL-I was kidding in my post about the QB. I too think Eli will be OK once he gets more experience... sooner or later he will learn throwing it over, behind, or at his receivers feet doesn't work in the Pros. I wasn't kidding about the cheerleaders, Corners, safeties, and I'm not sure Jacobs can be an everydown back... The corners get a bad rap and there is good reason for that, BUT when was the last time a Giant Safety put a big hit on someone????? If wide receivers are not afraid to cross the field, even the best corners will suck without that safety help. Jacobs runs with so much emotion and energy, but can he do that running it 25 times compared to 5. I hope he can, if not we're in trouble.. GO BIG BLEW!!! oops I meant BLUE or did I? | ||||||||||||||

| I agree with you on the issue with the safeties. One encouraging sign was that Will Demps seemed to come around the last three weks of the year (not counting the playoff game), after being virtually invisible through 13 games. So, maybe he was still recovering from the injury he had. I'm still a fan of Gibril Wilson. Hopefully if Demps comes back at full strength next year, Demps and Wilson will be an adequate tandem. | |||||||||||||||

| As much I hate him, the two of them combined, couldnt hold Dawkins jock strap. He does more for his defense with a few cheap shots a year, then Demps and Wilson have done their enitre careers. | ||||||||||||||

| From what I've seen, I don't think the Seahawks could do much better than Hamlin/Boulware as a pair of promising young safeties, without giving up on one of them. Of course, Hamlin is a UFA this offseason, so maybe you're right. Also, Blade/Blitz, the 49ers would be foolish to take a wide receiver in the first round, when CLEARLY they need to focus on defense. Smith/Gore/Davis is a solid skill trio to build around on offense, and while I agree that they need to bring in a WR at some point, this 2007 WR class has the depth and potential to be the best ever: Calvin Johnson, Dwayne Jarrett, Sidney Rice, Ted Ginn, Robert Meachem, Jeff Samardzija, and the list really goes on. Hell, Anthony Gonzalez declared today; in any other year, he'd be a late 1st-rounder, but this year he's worth a 2nd or 3rd (and I'd LOVE if the Packers took him). Meanwhile, their defense is abysmal. Anyway. For the Packers, like the Giants, DEFENSIVE BACK DEFENSIVE BACK DEFENSIVE BACK. Nick Collins is a good young FS, but Marquand Manuel was terrible this year at SS, and unless they move Charles Woodson to safety, that's a big need. Unfortunately, LaRon Landry and Reggie Nelson should be gone by the Packers' pick, so a good cornerback would be the next-best thing. Harris and Woodson are a solid pair, but it's time to bring in youth at the position. A running back would be nice, too, but the only one I'd care for at #16 is Marshawn Lynch. Vernand Morency and Ahman Green looked pretty good this year, anyway. | |||||||||||||||

As a day two pick, I'd be pleasantly surprised with Gibril Wilson, and I'd keep developing him as a starter in the NFL. Especially when cornerback is a way bigger need. | ||||||||||||||||

| Yeah, Wilson was a fifth-rounder, I believe. He was pretty awesome his rookie year, but took a step back last year. I'm not confident he'll ever be a pro bowl caliber safety, but he could at least be adequate. By the way Freak, I just wanted to mention that I was totally 100% wrong on the Packers going into this year. I thought that they would once again be one of the dregs of the league, and they put together a nice little season. You could probably answer this better than anyone else I know: Did Brett Favre do anything different this year? My guess (and this is pure speculation) is that he realized his own limitations that his age has put on him, and he shied away from being a "gunslinger" and stopped trying to squeeze balls into coverage, choosing instead to make smart, safe throws. I could be totally wrong, but that would seem logical | |||||||||||||||

| Yeah, you nailed it. New coach Mike McCarthy did very good job reeling Brett in, pounding the running game, and throwing really intermediate passes. In that late Thursday night game versus the Vikings, after Favre threw two picks in two plays (one returned for a TD by Smoot, the next a deep ball), McCarthy came back on offense by calling like six consecutive running plays. Like any Packers fan should, I hold my breath anytime Brett heaves it deep, but I still think he's the best option for the team at QB and I hope he returns. As for the season, yeah, a hugely pleasant surprise at 8-8. They were by far the youngest team in the NFL this year, basically starting three rookie O-lineman as well as a host of other rookies/2nd-year players. There are still some needs on offense, and the secondary needs fixing in a bad way, but the "dark age" everyone predicted seems a bit overblown. | |||||||||||||||
