Best of 2006

We never really did a "year-end" thread, so what were some of the most memorable moments in the world of sports for you in 2006. Here are mine:

George Mason's run to the Final 4, especially the UConn game

Rutgers defeats Louisville in the biggest game in the school's history

Andre Agassi's final match and second to last match at the U.S. Open (I was at the US Open the day of his final match, but not watching his match. I watched it on a big screen, and I got a little choked up).

Ben Roethlisberger's tackle of Nick Harper saving the Steelers in the AFC Championship

Texas over USC in the Rose Bowl

The Ohio State-Michigan game

The Dodgers hitting 4 home runs back to back to back to back to win in the 9th inning

Endy Chavez's amazing catch in Game 7 of the NLCS

LeBron James and Gilbert Arenas realizing that all of their teammates suck, and just going at each other for an entire 7-game series

Adam Morrison breaking down into tears after (actually, just before the end of) his final collegiate game.

Billy Packer once again looking like a fucking douchebag, as his precious "big schools" got trounced repeatedly by mid-major teams in March Madness

The joke that was Miami University football this season, most notably the fight versus FIU.

Carmelo Anthony's "hit and run"

The collapses of the Giants, Falcons, and Panthers (although the Giants have more "memorable" moments during that collapse, including the Devin Hester return of Feely's missed FG, and the Kiwanuka would-be sack of Vince Young)

Tomlinson scoring 4 TDs every week

I'm sure I'll think of more as time passes

I think you hit most of them here.. On the George Mason run, there was nobody more torn about it then I. I love the mid-major teams in college sports, but I couldn't exactly root against UCONN..

So far in '07, Boise/OU. So.. classic. I'm still in awe of that game.

A few more, mostly from the NFL:

The Saints destroying the Falcons in their first Superdome game post-Katrina

The Texans shitting the bed and passing on Reggie Bush, Vince Young, and Matt Leinart for Mario Williams

The Raiders, Lions and Bills (maybe...Losman's looked a lot better recently) shitting the bed by not drafting Leinart

The "Cincin-Attica" Bengals

"Ocho Cinco"

The same Florida player blocking two potential game-winning field goals against South Carolina to keep their BCS Championship hopes alive

Kenny Rogers getting caught cheating and Tony LaRussa being too much of a pussy to do anything about it.

Personally, I think Tony did what was right for the game. It would have been known as "The Kenny Rogers Series" if he had kept it going..

I think you really hit them there.

I would probably add USC choking to UCLA a few weeks ago. That was an entertaining game to watch.

That was by far the best game I have seen played all year. I think the BCS really needs to take notice of some of the smaller conference schools now that this is twice a Non BCS conference school has came into the picture and stunned a BCS conference champion.

That "special" High School kid who hit all the 3's for his team and winning, when never being anything more than a manager.. To me that was the best story of the year.

You left out all stories of TO...
and MATSUZAKA!!!
