Football: Barrow Defender Suspended Till March For Punch
From: BBC
Quote:
A Cumbrian footballer who fractured a rival player's jaw when he lashed out during an FA Cup match has been banned from playing until March. Barrow defender James Cotterill's punch at Bristol Rovers striker Sean Rigg was caught on camera on 11 November. The Football Association has charged Cotterill with violent conduct over the incident at Barrow's Holker Street. He has already admitted a criminal charge of causing grievous bodily harm and will be sentenced in January. Mr Rigg was treated for a double fracture of the jaw after the game. Magistrates heard that he had to drink through a straw and eat with a teaspoon as a result of the punch. Metal plates will now strengthen his jaw for life, Mr Rigg said. An interim suspension was imposed by the FA on 17 November due to the serious nature of the incident. He has now been formally suspended from all football-related activities.
Good, he deserves everything he gets.
