UFC gets Japanesse tv deal for NYE

In news that will make Pride FC sick, UFC 66 will now be available to most Japanese TV viewers this New Years Eve.

UFC events are currently being broadcasted in Japan by the satellite company WOWOW, a hitherto minority Satellite TV station.
However, the big news is that WOWOW will now be available to all SkyPerfectTV customers, the same satellite company that hosts Pride’s Pay Per View events.

Although the UFC will most likely stand in a very distant third after K-1 Dynamite and Pride Shockwave in terms of Japanese viewing figures, it’s presence alone will be an added strain to an already under pressure Pride.

yep, Now that UFC has Rampage and CroCrop there killing off an already weak PPV...thats gotta suck for PRIDE. CroCrop is off the card, Fedors injured, and Wandi is probably off the card to (rumor) This is just the nail in the coffin for Prides NYE event.

I thought the UFC PPV was on Dec 30? That will be like during the day in Japan and shouldn't conflict with Pride?

UFC 66 is on December 30th and replays on the 31th all day here, so Imagine UFC ethier got a Deal to show there PPV over there a day after, or all day like here. Ethier way it Clashs with pride's nye show.

Meh, I don't see it as a clash. To be honest I am almost %100 that %95 of the population of Japan would watch Pride FC first before even thinking about UFC.

its not so much a clash, but it does hurt the Pride FC show even if afew people buy the UFC show over Pride's. because the Pride show has taken big hits like all three of its top draws being taken off the show (as mentioned Fedor, Wandi and CroCrop are all off the card) so UFC going head to head or atlest on the same day will more then likely attract some kind of aduiance over there. even if its just because PRIDE is looking like a pretty nasty card and UFC the other option.
