Outfielder J.D. Drew agreed to a reported five-year, $70 million deal with Boston on Tuesday, paving the way for him to supplant Trot Nixon in right field in Fenway Park in 2007.

Drew is a good player when healthy, which is rare, and he's also kind of a dickhead, from all indications.

But, when you consider the contracts that players like Juan Pierre, Vicente Padilla, and Gary Matthews signed, it looks like decent (at best) players are getting overpaid this year. Sometimes it just happens that way...

I really don't see the upside in signing Drew, unless they were planning on getting rid of Manny, which would be ridiculous. I know the guy wants to leave, but really I want him to just stay in Boston. So is the Boston OF gonna consist of Ramirez-Crisp-Drew now?

You got it!! Drew is paid like he's Pooholes compared to Trot. But over a 3yr avg, I wouldn't say he was worth the extra 55mm... But hey, its not my money..
