| Shawne Merriman The Hero Why is this man being treated like a hero for using banned substances and getting himself suspended for four games? All I ever hear is how it's a shame what happend, and he's gonna be pissed when he gets back on the field, he's gonna make someone pay.. Am I the only one noticing how differently NFL players are treated for using steroids compared with those of Major League Baseball? Julius Peppers also tested positive a couple years back. Tested positive. That's the key word here. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that these guys have cheated the game, but all is forgiven. Merriman will go on to have some incredible years as will Peppers, and they'll both probably end up in the hall of fame. Meanwhile, guys like Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire might not make it into the baseball hall of fame, and they've never even been proven to be taking steroids. You can say whatever you want, it wouldn't hold up in court. There's no evidence whatsoever that proves that any of these men put illegal substances into their bodies. Anyone else see anything unfair about this? | |||||||||||||||

| I think the baseball one is more to do with them breaking records of heros from the past that people didnt want to see broken. While the records were standing for so long and no one broke them all of a sudden a few times in a few years people automattically attributed them to cheating to get it. Whereas in football there are so many players that taking one guy out doesnt really affect a team that much seeing they weren't breakign records and the records arent as important in football since baseball is "america's pasttime" | ||||||||||||||

| Rambo is pretty much right on point here. Baseball records are way more widley known then any football records. A guy who's potentially going to break the all-time homerun record is going to get way more criticism for cheating then some defensive player, who might be really really good and get 16 sacks and 100 tackles, I mean it's solid but it's not big enough to draw major attention. On the topic of the baseball hall of fame I find it bullshit to keep out hitters who played in the "steriod era" I mean if roids are were so popular back then you can't honestly convince only hitters were doing it. I know it's messed up but I'm sure both sides were cheating. So, you need to take into consideration roiding may have not been an unfair advantage but rather keeping with the times. | ||||||||||||||

| I also think that the fact that the players union (and the players themselves, by extension) were so vehemently opposed to steroid testing for so long left a sour taste in the mouth of baseball fans. Like, there's a difference between breaking a rule (corked bat, spitballs, etc, which are all things that the public seems to forgive) and fighting tooth and nail to allow something that is not only cheating, but against the law as well. I think thats a major reason why steroid users in baseball are so vilified, while they kinda get a free pass in football | |||||||||||||||
