Problems- a. Aramis Ramirez??? Are You Kidding Me? Yea the guy can hit, but he's not an Alfonso Soriano type player. He is not the top free agent
b. Andy Pettite One of the oldest current players and who knows how much longer he's gonna play! Barry Zito anyone?
c. J.D. Drew, OVER RATED *clap* OVER RATED
d. Julio Lugo, See Above
e. Mike Mussina, See Andy Pettite
f. Ted Lilly, hmmm... where has he been? now he's a top free agent?
g. Dave Roberts, and Rich Aurilia, Are how old??
h. Gary Matthews, Jr. According to Law in June Matthews was "one of the Best overall center fielders the game has ever seen" now describes his fielding as average and his hitting sportatic
i. Juan Pierre, GD care to take to this one?

1st of all, why is Frank Thomas ahead of Bonds on this list? They are both DH's, and Bonds towards the end of the season started to look like the old Barry. Anything remotely close to the old Barry is better then Frank Thomas.

I'm not trying to knock Thomas, he had a great year, and I think it'll be a decent signing for the Jays, but he's not Bonds.

I agree about Aramis Ramirez. He can really hit, but alfonso soriano is a special player. I'm not sure if he's worth all the money, especially when he'll be getting paid around $17M when he's 38-years old, but when you are the Cubs and haven't won in a century (which is literall, not even an exaggeration lol) then I have no problem with overpaying for this type of player.

How about J.D. Drew above Carlos Lee?

I can see Meche above Zito because Meche is an 'unknown quantity' Zito's pretty much reached his potential, but put Meche in the Twins system you could have a good pitcher

Gil Meche has been in the majors since I was like a freshman in college. I GRADUATED over 4 years ago. I know Gil Meche. Well, not personally, but I know how good he is. I also know that I would take Zito before him in a heartbeat.

Meche and Zito are also the same age, both 28

also note that I HATE J.D. Drew, and I would call him overrated, but the only people that overrate him are himself, Scott Boras, and Keith Law

The only possible explanation I can imagine is that the writer was basing his rankings on "value," given how big a contract he estimated each player would receive.

Otherwise, yeah, I'm a Jays fan and I'd take any of those guys over Ted Lilly.

yeah, I guess that is a possibility. However, if that is the case, I would put Drew waaaaaaaaay down the list.

Ted Lilly is a decent number 3 or 4 starter. Zito is an ace. Maybe not on the Johan/Halladay/Carpenter/Clemens level, but like a second-tier ace.
