Morneau had more HR's, RBI's, Total Bases, Struck Out less, and had a better Slugging Percentage
And I don't think, you see the places inside me that I find you,
And I don't know, how we separate the lies here from the truth,
And I don't know, how we woke up one day somehow thought we knew,
Exactly what we're supposed to do.
So leave me, at the Roadside,
And hang me, up and out to dry,
OK, you bring up Morneau's power numbers, but Jeter dwarfs him in "top of the order" stats (runs scored, OBP, and stolen bases) and defense.
Nobody is ever going to outshine every other player in the league in all categories. you have to take the player as a whole. There's more to baseball than just power numbers
And, why should Jeter's accomplishments be discounted because of the strength of the team around him? Is that fair? "The rest of your team is good, so you can't be MVP"
Let's also note that Morneau was surrounded by Mauer, Cuddyer, and Torii Hunter. Those guys aren't chumps, and all had really good years.
Wait how is striking out helping your team, and the Yankees had a better top-to-bottom order than the Twins. And to tell the truth I wouldn't put Cuddyer in there with Hunter and Mauer, he is no where near their level, he is way to inconsistent. Also point being, I don't think the Twins win half as many games if Morneau isn't there.

Jeter walked far more times. Jeter reached base far more times. Morneau made more outs than Derek Jeter did this season. That's more relevant than just number of strikeouts.
By the way, Ryan Howard struck out like 100 times more than Pujols this year.
I'm not saying Jeter didn't have a great year, but the award is "most valuable" ... That's why I brought up all the people on his team.
To tell you the truth Tom, I do think that a Yankee has to do more and a lot more then other players to be considered an MVP canidate. It comes with playing in the best lineup in baseball.
